You move away from the shrine towards the south gate. Everywhere kuo-toa are standing agape, walking in circles gibbering, lying on the ground wailing or attempting to hide the way a small child might hide from an angry parent. No one offers you any resistance.
Ezraen dares a glimpse back at the scene near the shrine as the monster comes within reach of the crowd near the shore. It roars and screeches in ecstasy as it's tentacles slam into its defenseless worshipers. Bodies go flying. He can't be certain but Ezraen would swear he saw Ploop charging at the creature, scepter held aloft only to be slammed down the way a tent stake is driven into the soft mud by a great mallet.
You come into sight of the gate. There is no one there. One of the guards lays dead. The others are gone. You see signs of struggle all around. It appears the violence that erupted at the shrine spread rapidly through the village.
Just then another demon comes rushing through the gate! Or at least you think it is a demon. It is about 8' tall with the body of an ape. It's face, the visage of a angry cat, is twisted with madness and unquenchable rage. Then you realize it is Derendil!
Any hint of the 'elf' is gone from him. He looks right through you toward the carnage at the shrine and is sprinting full speed towards it. It is very clear, if you stand in his way, he will run you over.
