D&D 5E (2014) [IC] Uller's Out of the Abyss

By the time Surana gets the ink from her eyes the thing and Sarith have both vanished. "It went over there!" Bertram shouts, pointing toward a pile of rocks around a dark fissure. Surana scrambles across the rubble as fast as she can. Everything is covered in a gooey slick from the inky explosion. When she gets there, she can see it is already a few feet down and crawling down into the darkness. She can't see the drow. He may be underneath it.

Eldeth moves closer to the fissure, but not quite to the precipice. Bertram also moves up, ready with another crossbow bolt but the terrain is so uneven he can't quite aim.

OOC: Ezraen is up. The fissure is 15' away and rough terrain. The Rocktopus is about 5' down. EDIT: and Ez is blind (can spend an action to regain his sight

Orsik clears his eyes. He looks about, demoralized and helpless. "Aye. That thing...it came out of nowhere." He moves cautiously towards the fissure. Surana peers down at it as it clambers deeper and disappears out of her sight, beyond a large rock outcropping in the fissure.

OOC: I'm not going to roll publicly for Sarith's death saves since he is out of your sight.

Surana is up.

OOC: How wide is this path? (What I'm really wondering: if I used dash and passed him to get 5' ahead, would he have to get within OA distance if he tried to keep going that way next turn? I have enough movement for that, but am unclear on what I'm looking at, terrain-wise.)

Regardless, since Drum and Surana go at the same time, I want him to use his movement to get out of her pack. Poor little dude didn't sign up for this stupid mission.

It's a narrow fissure (15' long by 5' wide but who knows what is like once you get down there) that goes down. If you wish to go down it, you'll have to climb down it's steep and probably not a lot of hand and footholds so DC 10 Athletics check to climb down. It's at least 20' deep but that's all the farther you can see without a light source coming close to the opening. It's probably deeper than that.

OOC: The light source we've been using the whole time is a torch w/ Light cast on it sticking out of my pack (that's why Bert & I are near each other up front; to share it).

Guess I'm goin in...

[roll0]

If she can reach the bottom on this turn, she'll draw both swords as soon as she gets there.

"Rope," Ezraen looks to Orsik and the others, "I'm going in after her and Sarith, it'll be easier for us to get back up with a rope. Lower it down after us, and hope we make out in one piece."

Ez drops his pack and slides into the tunnel as well.

[roll0]

OOC: Curses! Is there any way to use Acrobatics to slow my descent?

If you are using a rope, you don't need to make a check. But it costs an action to set it up. So you'll only get 15' down.

Surana, you get 15' down using your move action. You can see the fissure gets about 40' deep and narrows too be too small to go any further than that. The last place you saw the rocktopus was moving behind a large rock outcropping just a few feet below you. (Edit: You can continue with the dash action.

While Eldeth and Orsik are getting out the rope, Derendil points out "Sarith would be the first to say we should leave him and move on."

Eldeth mutters, "Sarith was part of the raiding party that caught me and my Ront."

Bertram replies "Well...maybe giant tentacle beasts taste good?"
