Icewind Dale 2

Carnifex

First Post
Well, just wondering fi anyone had heard any interesting tidbits about this game. Amazon.com have a release date of the end of June, but I haven't heard very much about it apart from a handful of small previews in gaming magazines.

I know most people have Neverwinter Nights as the foremost thing in their mind to look forwards too, but I'm excited about this too, mostly since my computer wont be able to run NWN but also because I have great faith in 'em coming up with another great game - the last in the Infinity Engine series, I guess...

So, anyone got any news about it? Any info? What's new, what's in the game, etc, etc...

Well, for starters, I'd say that the best place for news is Planet Baldur's Gate, but maybe that's just me. In short, though, the game's shaping up to be a 40+ hour trip, that uses a completely redone - and customizable interface, as well as updated graphics for all the buttons (spells, etc.) The inventory/character record/spellbook screens are supposed to be very different, also, but they haven't given too much about that away yet. However, what's probably the biggest (and most wonderful thing, in my opinion) is the fact that it'll be running all 3rd Edition rules! Feats, skills - noncombat skills are good things, and from the developers, everyone will want to keep spellcraft maxed out. There's subraces, multiclassing, feats... ahh. Sounds like it'll be a great, great game.

The only reason I'm considering not buying it is because of the infinity engine. I've played so many hours of baldur's gate, totsc, bg2, tob, iwd, that I'm just plain sick of seeing those same swing the sword animations, I'm tired of every mage looking the way they do, I'm tired of the same old equipment screen with the same old avatars and the same old animations, I'm tired of fighting the same creatures over and over. I can't tell you how many ogres, minotaurs, yuan-ti, and giants I've slain in these games.

IWD had an amazing soundtrack (that blew BG away) spell animations that were twice as good (compare web spells and see what I mean), and monsters that were much more fun to fight than baldur's gate (though baldur's gate had sweeping story, epic confrontations----You dare intrude upon my domain!? I am a DRAGON! So what? I've killed 6 of ya. Come get some. Or fighting off the fire giant army single handedly... RAWR), so I've got high hopes for a 3e version of it. But I don't know if I can bring myself to go back to those graphics again...

I am going back and forth on whether or not to get this... If it was out today, I might order it, but since it is going to conflict with NWN, maybe not.

Lionheart, on the other hand, is shaping up to be something special!

IF NWN isn't out by the time this is out i get this then NWN. If NWN is out before this than i get NWN.

And thank god there is no more of this mushy romance crap..plot and killing is all i need.

I agree. But despite the infinity engine, I'll get it. I've seen some nice looking screens showing the redesign at the iwd2 site (http://icewind2.blackisle.com/). The big plus is that it is 3rd edition, something I understand. Don't get me wrong, BG, BG2, PS:T were wonderful games but I had no clue what 2nd edition was. :)

I'm counting in IWD2 to be good. Something I'm not so sure about on NWN as it sounds too good to be true.

machine.
