I fondly (?) remember nearly my whole party being slain/enslaved by an aboleth in our current campaign. :heh:

I've used 'em as a DM, but try to limit their use to keep their creepy mystique intact.

Never.

And, to be hoenst, I can barely remember their entry in the Monster Manuals. They may have appeared in three editions, but 3e is the first time that I actually noticed they were there and served some purpose beyond being a weird aquatic mind-flayer.

There is also an article in Dragon 131 that covers more powerful forms.

I ran a campaign based on this article during my misspent youth. 2e saw maybe 2 random encounters with them. 3e... not yet.

No, never. Until Lords of Madness and "The Styes", I had no idea how to properly set up an encounter with them. Now I have a better idea... but I have no room for them in my game. Not yet.

Demiurge out.

For this one, I have never used them, not being a big fan of the Underdark, or really understanding their motivation. Teh thrid strike is the amount of saving throws, ifthe party suceeds, it is a cakewalk, if they fail a TPK, or nearly so.

Three strikes, so I will probably never use them.

This is pretty much me. They never really registered on my radar.

I've never used an aboleth as a DM, nor can I remember ever encountering one as a player. I don't have any particular aversion to them, but I've just never felt compelled to use them either.

I love aboleths, and use them all the freaking time. Whether it be the insideous force behind the strange change of personality of the king (or duke or baron or whatever), or if it's the monster in the cellar, or the watery guardian to an ancient tomb, I always find room for the aboleth somewhere. I just love the tentacled monsters.
