In 25 or so years of gaming, perhaps only the flumph and the protien polymorph have not been used more than 16 times. I happen to like the displacer beast as an interesting "pet creature" type encounter, I would rank it just below the top tier of "orc, giant, demon".

I think for most people the poll is going to be a vote on how long they've been playing the game more than which monsters they'd prefer.

Does human hunting drow were-displacer beasts count? if it does, then... like 6 times, counting both used and encountered.

Well, if you count the arcade game... the tons more!

I voted 3-4, but I guess it's more if you include fighting them in the Gold Box games.

They'll probably see a bit more use in my games, as I need to justify the FOUR displacer pack lords I've picked up (and not a single huge fire elemental or purple worm for my troubles. sigh)

I played in an Urban Arcana game with a displacer beast-obsessed GM. I suppose it was infectious, because now I have since used them regularly in my own games. Great monster.

I have also used the displacer serpent from Miniature's Handbook.

I love the Coeurl, great stuff. It just annoys me to no end that WotC claims to own the concept while there is a clear pattern of prior art dating back to the 1930's with A.E. Van Vogt's "Black Destroyer" and his later novelization "Voyage of the space beagle".

I've used them a bunch and had them used against me.

I vaguely justified one once; never again.

I dislike most ethereal and extra-planar creatures as presented in D&D.
Broken record:
Displacer beasts are neither.
