Idea for future Iron DM contests

Oh, and Wulf: Huh?

You know... I seem to set up these moral quandaries for the players with no real way for them to see what they are "supposed" to do to "win."

Surely you remember giving me a loss or two on that criteria.

EDIT: ... You bastard.

I'm not sure I understand your proposal, but in theory I'm game.

The idea would be that at the end of every round, the current Iron DM would have to beat one of the losers of the current round.

Thus, the old champion would "fight" 3 battles, same as the "challenger".

Shouldn't that be Rat Bastard? ;)

As for Iron DM rules suggestions, no offense to Vax but I was never in favor of him just having to face off against the winner to retain his title. Seemed to cheezy and eazy. In future, I think that the current Iron DM should be guaranteed a spot in the opening round of the next competition. If he can go the distance again, then he can become the Bronze DM maybe, then Steel, then ... I dunno ... Adamantium :D ?

If we stuck to what QB is proposing though, would that make me the Iron DM of Pot? ;) HHJK

Can't wait for the next competition though. We should think about upping the frequency.

Nemmerle:
As always, a fair appraisal of the situation. I certainly wouldn't want to harm the driving concept behind Iron DM...so let's just forget my TV induced foolishness. In truth, it was more of a silly suggestion I wanted to share for amusement's sake than anything else. I plenty happy with the current format of the Iron DM competitions, and look forward to defending my title down the road :)!

Wulf:
Wouldn't Iron DM Quandary be more apt? For my part, I'd want to be known as Iron DM Subterfuge or perhaps Iron DM Dire Cricket :p.

Nifft:
What would happen if the defending champ lost to one of the current round losers? Would he/she immediately be knocked out of the tourney, and thus abdicate the throne?

Mirthcard:
On the one hand I agree with you, that having the reigning Iron DM should not necessarily be guaranteed a battle with the new tourney champ. Instead, they should just be given a spot in the current contest. On the other hand, I'm all for a bye into a pre-arranged match versus the next contest winner for the Iron DM as the prize (along with honor & prestige) for victory in the previous tournament. I guess that means I'd be happy either way -- how's that for decisive :D?

i am thinking in future ceramic d.m. competition the winner of the last round (mirthcard in this case) will be able to pick their first round opponent, this is a tip of the hat to previous goodness, without being an overt advantage :)

No, but any losses would be counted against the Iron DM in the final round, just as though he'd mis-used optional ingredients. The IronDM must win 3 rounds to be on a "level playing field" with the challenger.

The point of this would be: IronDM plays more rounds (yay for everyone), "losers" play more (yay again), and "losers" get to boast about having beaten the IronDM (should they prove able).

PS: What's the polite & more accurate word for "losers" -- those who do not advance in a given round? "Loser" is way too harsh.

Nifft:
How about vanquished? Those that did not prevail? In truth, using the word "losers" is a bit harsh, but it's not intended to be an indictment on their person or abilities. Rather, it's just a simple descriptor for identifying tournament participants who did not advance beyond a certain round or battle.

And as I've stated before, I'm in favor of just about anything that keeps me more actively involved in future Iron DM contests without ruining the tournament!!

"Iron DM Grecian Style with Gratuitous Nudity" - What'd I ever do to you, Capellan? ;). Besides, "IronDM Orc Lover" is so much more accurate and evocative.

Personally, I'm all for making the IronDM play through every round. No More Free Lunches! Play Or Pay! Use It Or Lose It! Uh... I'll shut it now ;).
