Ideas for a swashbuckler

I'll have to get my hands on complete scoundrel then, but I do think I'll be trying to go for swashbuckler 16/rogue 4 (if the DM will let me replace that fighter level with a swash level that is) - sounds exactly like the type of character I wanted to play (I also like that fighting defensively bonus... I could use that too)

That works if you get Daring Outlaw. You might also want to consider Swashbuckler 12/Rogue 4/Fighter 4. Either would work well, though. Daring Outlaw makes sticking with Swashbuckler much more worth it.

On my first glance through the book, there are at least 8 feats and 3 PrCs that I want to use in various characters, as well as a half dozen tricks I'd like to add to current characters I'm working on.

So I guess we simply have different tastes.

Possibly. I thought there was some worthwhile content. I was largely disappointed in the things it didn't have that I expected/hoped it would have. Also, I am not a fan of the mechanics behind luck feats and skill tricks.

Theres also a feat in Complete Scoundrel that lets you gain an extra d6 damage when you fight defensively, also you can get the extra d6 if you have combat expertise and take at least a -2 to hit. -2 to hit and +2 to ac for an extra d6 damage is pretty good.

Too bad you'll have to use light weapons to get this.

You'll be losing out on the advantages of the rapier (good crit range, finessable, one-handed weapon) - thus, you'll get less base damage & -4 to disarm/resist disarm.

Your Improved Disarm feat will become pretty much worthless with this feat.

I'd rather try and convince my DM to let me use a thinblade rapier for an extra +2 to disarm/feint.

Doesnt the rapier count as a light weapon for almost all things?

You might say:
The rapier counts as a light weapon except when it has to be a light weapon.

Just like the whip is a melee weapon that acts pretty much like a ranged weapon.

She can keep the rapier. The feat works with light weapons and any weapon to which the weapon finesse feat applies.

Indeed. The iconic scoundrel demonstrating it in CS even uses a rapier...a more or less real rapier, not that falchion from PHB... my bad. Well, that's what happens if you fancy believing yourself to know all the rules by reading a new feats section but once or twice... ;)

EDIT: I knew there was something wrong... he'd have to ditch his buckler to make use of the feat! Now that's a big find indeed :heh: , but a -1 AC tradeoff doesn't make it sound so crystal-clear a choice any longer.
