Ideas for Power Card Accessories

I plan to use power cards a bit differently.

The DM takes care of the cards in between games (I will probably store them in a few of my old MTG card boxes...) and hands them out at the beginning of a session, apart from already used dailys. As an encounter or daily power is used, the card goes to the DM, to be handed back after a short or long rest.

This way we minimize confusion on what powers can be used or not. The accessories needed will be three card boxes (unused player/item cards, used player/item cards and DM cards) and one sleeve plus old MTG land/common per card, all of which I have already.

I don't know, I think that stuffing power cards into a card sheet basically negates all the benefits of having power cards insted of just using powers listed on a character sheet.

I agree with this. It seems to me that having the cards in a sheet is pretty much like having them written on the character sheet. I'd get far more value from them in my hands, or partially spread out on the table, being able to flip the dailies over when used, etc.

As for writing things on them, I learned a trick a long time ago, that if you put a piece of scotch tape over the spot where you want to write, you can use a pencil and write/erase all you want without damaging the card. I will likely print out cards for my group with spaces open for the variable numbers, and use the tape trick.

I forget who made these, but a power card mockup had information on the back for how the power could recharge (the at-will powers said "you can't exhaust this, flip it back over" or some such).

If this becomes common, the best accessory will be the clear-backed protectors. They protect the card AND make it heavy enough that only the strongest winds can blow them around.

Yep, the tape trick works wonders for our group!

I think I'm going to be needing an index card box or two - so that players can hand over encounter / daily powers to me when they're used, and I can hand them back at the end of the encounter.

I am likely not going the playing card sized power cards. Rather, I plan to make a power sheet that is 8.5x11 printed on cardstock. For limited use items (e.g. per encounter and daily powers) I will print a checkbox by the power, and tape trick* it.

I'll have less clutter, will be able to see everything right in front of me organized how I want it, and will know between sessions what powers I have used.

Perhaps I will work up a sheet based on one of the pregens to get a better idea how it might work.

*Tape trick = putting a piece of scotch magic tape over the checkbox so that it can be easily erased with a pencil eraser without damaging the original printing beneath.
