….You're being as idiotic as the tailgaters in the first place. No, really!
As Harmon points out, the only reason for you to slam on your breaks is for a big fat law suit. Is that what you're after? The point of this thread, I thought, was to discourage bad driving habits in order to save lives / reduce accidents, not encourage bad driving habits in order to kill people or collect a big paycheck at the expense of some insurance company -- which I would like to point out, not all people have. So, even Harmon's idea is flawed.
You make a good point here. My intent was to talk about bad driving, and a growing concern that I had, I was not intent on saying that you should slam on your breaks to discourage tailgating, I was trying to imply (as you gathered) that a law suit was the only real reason for that action; yes, break slamming a tailgater is flawed. Apologies if anyone misunderstood that.
Nerfherder makes a good point that a car is a weapon, in fact vehicle accidents kill more people then just about anything out there (Harmon- avoid getting political).

The SUV must not have been using a turn signal. I would not have let him merge either, unless he used a signal... I tend to be very LG, when driving; use your signals or you don't get in.
Here in California I use a turn signal only when I want someone to get out of my blind spot, or to signal them that ‘you need to pass me, cause I am about to move into your lane.’
It’s a thing I learned that if someone is within… oh, two hundred feet and they see a turn signal come on they will (no matter your speed difference) attempt to pass you when you turn on that signal. Cops I have found are the worst at this. Cops also seem to like my blind spot, but that is for another paragraph.
FickleGM- dude, I was so you about fifteen years ago (okay, so you said you had changed, but…). I once drove from Boise to Salinas (about 800 miles) in just under ten hours. Two gas stops, no food. I thought at one time that I saw a cop behind me, but he never caught up. It was incredibly stupid, esp. the drive down the Sierras and the insane moves I made, why? To get home in time to see my wife before she took off for a seminar. It was stupid.

I'm not from Idaho unfortunatly, and didn't come up with anything on a Google search.
Did you trying calling the DMV and saying that you wanted to report an unsafe driver?
http://www.dmv.org/id-idaho/department-motor-vehicles.php
I called California (they moved back here recently to sell their rental property- have to live here two years or pay a lot more on Capital Gains), they helped a bit, and one lady checked and told me that he did not have a license here in California. So I called Idaho and they were playing all nice until they heard something about California. No help. So I called back, got someone else (my intent), and I was told that there was nothing I could do from California (I never mentioned the state that time? Co Worker? Caller ID?). “I think he’s a hazard, he moved his driving foot by lifting his leg with his hand and placing it on a different peddle- you won’t help me save lives?” “You need to talk to him.” “He refuses to acknowledge that he has anymore of a disability- hello?” Ya, hung up on.
Thank you for the attempt, Angel, but I think I need to just get in a vehicle with him, and ask him to stop as soon as I say- “Stop!” and see what he does, if he flips out then I will have to explain to him that he’s a danger I can’t have around his grand daughter. With our present relationship, that should be the nail in the coffin for us.
Thanks all
ps- I have sent them an email, in hopes that I can find a non prejudice person in Idaho (that doesn't hate Californians).
Thanks
