I probably wouldn't because I have enough new games to last the rest of my life, but I wouldn't have bought into third edition if it hadn't been labeled D&D either, and I loves me some third edition D&D. The same with second edition D&D. I probably wouldn't have bought into it if it wasn't labeled D&D, but I rode that horse for over a decade.

You, mean, WotC or at least Mike Mearls coming out and saying "look, I've got a new game system here", and it was discussed on these boards or other boards I frequent - Yes, absolutely.

If it was from some other party I haven't heard of before, and it wasn't strongly discussed on these boards or another board I frequent. Probably not, because how am I supposed to know about it then!

for me, it won't be D&D. D&D stopped being produced in 1979.

I'd be willing to buy a 1 book system in that kind of situation, probably not a 3 book system. Then again if I bought the PHB and it was really really good I might grab the other two books.

(Which as it stands is better than my current stance which is that I won't buy 4e at all).

Extremely doubtful.

For fantasy gaming, I already have D&D (2nd, 3rd and 3.5 editions, plus PDFs of the Rules Cyclopedia and the 1st Edition hardbacks), WFRP, Iron Heroes and Exalted (1st Ed). That being the case, I really don't need a new system, especially a rules-heavy system - I've long since passed the point where I'm interested in spending days learning a game system, unless it blows me away.

I'll make an exception for a new edition of D&D, since it represents the baseline in gaming, and so is useful to know for moving between groups. Otherwise, though, I'm not interested in new fantasy games.

I'm not buying 4e until I hear some reviews and get a chance to find out what it's like actually printed.

I'd do the same even if it wasn't '4e.'

When I thought of 4E as an attempt by WotC to create a replacement for my D&D games, I had (and still have) significant concerns over the system, setting, marketing etc etc. The changes (and the company) seemed really out of touch with what I was looking for in my D&D games. But once I shifted my internal paradigm and thought of 4E as just another new RPG, it became less irritating. Sure I'm still pissed that WotC has dropped and will no longer support a system that I really enjoy, but now I just lump 4E in a pile with any other new game and will judge it on its on merits and flaws.

So yeah ... if 4E hadn't come with the D&D moniker, I probably would have had at least 1 foot on the bandwagon.

I got Arcana Unearthed and Earthdawn. Heck, I even actually played Chivalry and Sorcery. So, yeah, I'd at least give it a shot.
