• NOW LIVE! Into the Woods--new character species, eerie monsters, and haunting villains to populate the woodlands of your D&D games.

If you could pick only three house rules for your game, what would they be?

1) Death occurs at -10 (or -CON if using that house rule) only after a round has elapsed. If someone heals a character to -9 or higher before the round is up, that character is not dead.

2) D3 for Cure Minor instead of 1 point. I know it is ticky-tac, but what an annoyingly next to worthless little spell otherwise. You cannot even use it to get out of disabled (for yourself) at 0 hit points.

3) Cure Light Wounds is always a first level spell, Cure Moderate Wounds a second level spell, etc. Why even bother to give a Ranger Cure Light Wounds at all if the earliest he can get it is 8th level? It makes more sense to give it to him when he acquires an Animal Companion so that he can actually prevent it from dying. Not all Rangers are in PC parties.

1. No death from massive damage.

2. No multi-class restrictions or XP penalties

3. Can't decide on this one its either Hero points, no alignments, or avg. HP for levels >1

1) New characters: get 3/4 max for rolled hit points, 3/4 max starting gold, 72 ability points to distribute as they want, and 6 free background skill points they can put into Craft, Knowledge(local), Profession, and Speak Language.
2) Dodge gives +1 to AC

I just used this thread to hone my house rules list, and it's better for it. Here's the most important 3:

1. XP is awarded for good RPing and overcoming obstacles however it's done, not for killing things.

1.5: extra favored classes.
Humans: same as in PH
Gnomes: Bard and Wiz
Dwarves: Fighter and Barbarian
Halflings: Rogue and Ranger
Elves, half-elves, and half-orcs don't exist....

2. Spontaneous Metamagic as in UA.

3. Every 3 levels, add 1 cross-class skill to your class skill list.
