I recently joined a party of four, a Sorceror, Ranger, Rogue and Druid. Guess, just wrinkle up your brow and guess, what they begged me to play?

-------------

That's right, and I have never played a straight fighter before. Been spending my time here looking for how-to tips ;p.

The nice thing is that, in this situation, assuming that everyone is playing to their generic role and the fighter isn't an archer, the wizard an aspiring fighter/mage, and the cleric another archer or a self-buffing fighter, you can play anything you want and contribute. All of the bases are covered.

So either get some descriptions of the characters histories and personalities and craft a nifty hook to bring another character into the party or just put together a character you want to play. As for myself, I've recently enjoyed playing fighters and clerics and suspect I could have a lot of fun playing a paladin to type rather than against type (as I'm doing at the moment). However, I've often thought that a skald type bard--possibly aiming for Warchanter (Complete Warrior) would be a fun character to play. So I think I'd play a combat focussed bard, possibly multiclass with fighter and/or barbarian a little, and have some fun as a second-rank combatant and general support character.

With reasonable players and Dm i would just play what i most wanted-i wouldn't select a class i wouldn't enjoy playing just to fill a gap.
This is because IMO 4 pcs are more than enought to cover every field of adventuring.

I voted Druid, if you do a good job building him up the Druid can be one hell of a team player backing up everyone in whatever needs to be done at any given time.

Well from the support stand point the Bard is the way to go. It intermixes with the other classes already present. But two cleric's could seruriously jump the encounter level of the party.

I would say Druid. You add another full-progression caster (always a good thing) with great flexibility. The druid will have knowledge about the wilderness and survival skills, something the iconic party generally lacks. Parties with a wizard, druid and cleric always become extremely powerful and versatile in the long run.

Bard would also be a good choice ... but I hate bards.

I'd have to pick one of the wild classes, either Barbarian, Druid, or Ranger. Personally I'd choose a Ranger, afterall the party still needs a wilderness guide/tracker for those trips out into the wilds. The standard party of four wouldnt' even be able to make their way through the wilderness to get to that dungeone with out one of the wild-classes. :p
