Ignorance on the web

Hmmm. Well, as long as there's not an expensive material component, maybe I could make it into a wand. I bet that would kick Harry Potter's wand's ass :D
My understanding is that there are two ways of accomplishing this, both do require expensive material components. A short term version requires use of a telephone to initiate the summoning. After speaking with someone, and assuring them you are not a lawful good agent, the summoned being will appear at the appointed time and location. A sacrifice of money will be required. The amount depends upon the length of time and service required.

A longer-term version can also be found. This one usually requires a long ritual, lasting months, or even years, culminated by the sacrifice of a diamond to bind the sorceress to you. This version often has many unanticipated effects.

Edit: and breaking the binding of the long-term version can be even more expensive than the initial ritual.

I think you are confusing the Sorceress who is binding you, along with taking your precious diamond.... while making you think it is you who is doing to summoning.

There has to be some way of pointing out how we are victimized and degraded by these statements. Some sort of touchy-feely movement could get started that would make gamers a protected minority. We could demand to be included in diversity talks and have the right to participate in marches and demonstrations our social acceptance would become certain.

However, realistically, people will continue to demonize and ostracize activities and people who do things that they do not understand or have heard through the grapevine is evil, strange or oddball in some way. I feel the same way about Nascar, I just don't jump up on a soapbox and question how rational it is to watch cars drive around an oval track repeatedly.

What is there to rationalize... after the 501st lap, a demon with a havoline logo appears to shower riches upon the worshipers.... that or the combination of beer & too much sun makes one hallucinate.

Here's an image of a rare talisman purported to have much the same effect as the wand you're contemplating constructing. It does however require the purchase of a rather pricey material component I'm afraid. :\

Not a material component, but a focus!

PS

I think it's so funny when they emphatizes the fact that the narrator is called Dungeon Master, as if the other gamers were to obey him and be his puppets. The religious guys are so ignorant as they are naive. I think WOTC should rename the term DM to simply GOD, and the term player to SHEEP. Miniatures should be renamed to Voodoo Dolls, and Dungeons & Dragons be called Hells & Demons.

"Hey God, the sheep is gathered, let's get our voodoo dolls and play some hells and demons, whatcha think?"

haha those guys would love it!

I think that the two devout Christians in my group would be very surprised to find out that the rest of us have been hiding all the Satanic rituals in our D&D manuals from them all this time.

Then again, one would think that the sheer number of natural 20s one of our players manages to conjure by voodooing the rolls of two of our other players would have tipped them off by now. Hmm.

Peace & Luv, Liz

I'm just amused that they're still citing Deities and Demigods. I wonder if that article was simply cut and pasted from a much older source.

If you check the date on the article it was written and posted in January of 2004. So yes its out of date.

But I'm always amazed at the amount of ignorance that some, not all, "tolerant" church going people have. They refuse to properly learn of something before passing judgment on it.

I say some because a few years back I actually ran a D&D campaign for several members of my church at the time including my pastor as well, and they all loved it. Luckily some are not so ignorant.
