I'm Done with "I'm Done "Threads

One thing I'm unclear on about ENWorld is whether it's primarily for discussing 3rd ed, d20 or all roleplaying games. I know it was originally created just to talk about 3rd ed.

On second thought, if you simply remove Attacks of Opportunity from this thread, it becomes much more playable. GIve that a try.

Oh, and Castles and Crusades is also compatible with this thread.

"And I've written this streamlined two-page RPG based on the core mechanics of this thread..."

;)

In my view, EN World has become the place where EN Worlders talk about their home games, keeping it clean, keeping it civil, and keeping it on topic. Most of those games were some incarnation of D&D at some point.

I think that these days, if we tried to lock it down to "3rd ed" or even "d20" we'd lose a lot of members of the forum that contribute great ideas to our best discussions. Yeah, our "topic" is murky, but the main thing is that we all try to keep in mind that everybody wants to have a good game.

Could not agree more. For variety I like to experiment with various other systems, but you know what? I don't play often enough to be sick or quit anything. That's adult life. I have fun with D&D, kitchen-sink game and all. Complex or not.

I imagine switching back to OD&D or AD&D and I cringe. The imagined "simplicity" is simply not there. I wasn't happy with AD&D when I quit it, why go back?

Why do messageboards have any rules about what kind of threads you can do? Your advice makes forum policies obsolete - just move on if you see something annoying.

So you are advocating that "I'm done" threads be banned from the forum? Or perhaps, any thread critical of D&D? Where do you draw the line?

I find the very idea bizarre and disagree with the OP.

I think maybe the point of the public "I'm done with" threads is that people are trying to sound alarm bells. There was a big problem with D&D in the 2E days, clearly (most of us) can see that in retrospect. Maybe 3E has gone off the rails, maybe it hasn't. I think the pepole who are posting those threads like the game, like role playing games in general and D&D in particular, but feel the current rules or culture or whatever have gone in a direction that they can't follow, and they are simply making us aware of that fact.

Would it be better if people dropped out silently?

I think it's indicitive of the rampant narcissism in America today...people think they are important and that their opinions matter. It's the illusion of empowerment.

YMMV :)
I can't believe I took you off ignore just for that :)

That's what most people do. Sometimes a really old thread is resurrected and you see all those familiar names that have long since disappeared from the boards. Apparently most didn't need to write "I'm taking my ball and going home" threads.

I'd understand it better if the threads brought something new to the table. But they don't. "Okay, you think D&D is rules heavy, yes, fine, RPG.NET is that way."

Disregarding such threads is one option. Most internet forums, however, don't take kindly with people dissing their chosen subject. You can try: go to a mac forum and declare your going to PC (actually, theyäll laugh at you :)), go to a model train forum and say they're too immature for you now, go to a gay forum and tell you're straight now.

Yes, there's a remote possibility of intelligent discussion in each case, but somehow I don't see it as welcome.

I demand with great shouting, particularly within the confines of a Noah's Bagels establishment (wherever that may be) that this thread be merged with the Meta-Troll thread.

And if the moderators don't accede to my obscure and belligerent demands, then I'm going to quit D&D, lose weight, and sell out to Gleemax (TM) (R) (AFAIK) (OMGWTFBBQ!1!).

...wait, what?
