I'm disappointed they didn't give the percentage of people that were undecided. Those are always my favorite. They take the entire survey, but they are too stupid to have an actual opinion.

Why does it matter?

Why does what matter? Why does it matter that so many people reject evolution, some pretty basic science?

To touch on it only so far as we can on these boards - what people do and don't believe impacts their choices. When that many people reject science, the results are poor choices, en masse.

Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

This does hurt. But is this because of religious movements, a culture decreasing the value education, the stupid "it's just a theory" bull that doesn't understand what a theory is, or something else?

Yes. It's all that and more.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, and there has always been. The strain of anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that "my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.

The stoopid and lazies are the problem with democracy, but is there a better alternative?

I'm afraid of the direct democracy the internet/cell phones can offer. Collective choices could be left to the best marketing campaign (usually who ever has lots of capital), rather than facts and sensible discussions.

It is nice to think people can decide the future of their nation/world, but then you wonder what people will decide for the nation/world.
