D&D 4E I'm NOT upset about 4E

I'm not upset because the extent of the 3.x product I own are three 3.0 PH's and a handful of Malhavok PDF's. I'm reminded of the excitement I felt after 3.0 was released when you could play a dwarven wizard and/or paladin.

Bothered by it? No. I never moved to 3.5 because I didn't want to spend the $ and then have the v4 announcement come out.

What worries me the most is the implications of the online items. I don't want to be tied to an internet connection for my gaming tools, content, etc. I prefer stand alone programs to do chargen and hard copies of gaming materials.

I'm not upset at all. While I don't really understand or agree with the inclusion of Tieflings as a core race, everything else looks really interesting to me so far. If they drop gnomes as a core race I couldn't care less (I don't use them in my home setting anyway, dumb little pseudo-dwarves.)

I just hope the whole online aspect isn't required to play the game and is just extra for those who want to use a computer while they play. I want to be able to play D&D without having to use a computer. If I want to play WoW, I'll play WoW. When I want to play an actual RPG, I want to sit at a table with my friends and books and paper, without needing a laptop. If a computer is required to play 4E, I'm afraid I won't be playing.

But so far I am cautiously optimistic, creeping into excited at all the possibilities.

Oh yeah! That felt ... oddly liberating. Sort of ... eh ... you all know what I mean! :heh:

I personally am not upset about 4e, but to my dismay, the rest of my old group is. They have pretty much all said they have no intention of changing from 3.5 or subscribing to D&D Insider because they just see it as a WotC money grab. Considering the virtual game table might be our best chance to regularly play again from the different states we live in, I was hoping they would be at least intrigued by the idea and open minded about looking at it when it comes.
IMO your group are right - the attempt to force a monthly money-bleed is sheer cheek as far as I see it. But I'm not at all worried about 4E itself because, unless they do something very strange with it, it will neither require online access nor be required for it. It was hardly unexpected, after all.

If you want to play online with your buddies for a one-off charge that won't break you and with any system you care for look here. Even if Battlegrounds turns out not to suit you (the demo is nearly full-featured and free) heruca has links to several other VT apps that also don't change you a tax for life with no end product and are all worth trying, at least.

I'm pissed!

4e made EN World damn near unusable today.

Otherwise, it's probably fine.

Amen Brother! I could care less about 4E, I'm not buying but that's my choice.

I'm not particularly uspet about 4E, I knew it was coming and after seeing the 2008 WotC release schedule a few weeks back I suspected something was up. It's just business, and I'm not going to get upset about that. Besides I think 3E ushered in a "silver age" of gaming, it revitalized the industry, particularly the OGL and I am hopeful that 4E will continue to do so. Unless, of course, it relies too heavily on converting the MMORPG fanbase.

I do, however, get annoyed when access to my favorite gaming resource gets bogged down from the hysteria. I understand the desire to talk and speculate about the newest edition, the evolution of ENWorld is based on that, but c'mon I'm scrolling through a page or so of threads on 4E just to get to other stuff.

Maybe I'll just not frequent the general discussion for a bit, let things calm down some.

4e doesn't bother me as I own only 1 or 3.5x books(Psychics Handbook from Green Ronin and I think a Players Handbook)

Since the game is rebooting its a great time for me to start fresh.

Since what they are talking about doing looks pretty cool, well except the online support stuu which that sounds like junk., it looks like 4e will be more fun and less crowded than 3.5. I like that

However if for some reason 4e doesn't do anything for me I have True 20, GURPS and Unisystem books a plenty and those player bases aren't affected by the new edition.

I'm not upset at all. In fact, my interest is piqued.

I don't like 3E so those books have no appeal to me. Therefore, any change in the WOTC core rules has at least a chance of gaining my interest. It remains to be seen if 4E will take the game further away from the one I have any interest in playing, or if it will "come back to the fold" in some respect.

I'm not betting on the latter, but it will be fun to see what develops.

I'm quite pleased actually. I haven't been happy with 3E for a while now. I'm not sure 4th Edition will have the answers I want, but this change is good and it is happening now. The 3E SRD and OGL mean the only products that are certain to stop being published for it are Wizards'.

I'm not upset about 4e. I wish Dungeon and Dragon were still around (mostly Dungeon), but a new edition of D&D is something I couldn't care less about.
