Immunity to Polymorphing?

Tjaden

First Post
When a creature has immunity to polymorphing, does that also mean that the creature can't voluntary become polymorphed, like casting it on themselves anymore? It would make sense to me either way, but I was really wondering...

I'd say so, yes! Immune is immune!

Not always, it depends. For example Night walker shades are immune to spells under 6th lvl. Yet they can cast spells on themselves that are under 6th lvl, for example, Haste.

I read "Voluntarily Giving Up a Saving Throw" (PHB p. 150) to mean that a creature with an immunity can suppress it if desired: "Even a character with a special resistance to magic (for example, an elf's resistance to sleep effects) can suppress this if he or she wants to." "Elven Racial Traits" (PHB p. 16) identifies this resistance as an "immunity".

If the creature has immunity to the effect by virtue of it's creature type immune usually means cannot be effected.

If it's tacked on as a cheap solution to the "polymorph other" problem then it's probably droppable like spell immunities from the spell.

Elemental resistances and immunities are not droppable AFAIK.

Ah, but a Nightwalker's magic immunity is treated as undefeatable SR for 6th level spells and lower, and as we all know, SR never interferes with your own castings. :)

I know K.R. that's why I said...

See...

:D

Besides all that was asked was "When a creature has immunity..." he didn't say what type. A shades immunity is listed as such, & is valid. I think Tjaden should post a bit more info so we can all stop guessing about what he wants to know. :)

True. I would assume that he meant creature type immunities, like undead immunities or something.
