Improved Dodge

Comments are welcome. In particular, I'm not sure about the Wis requirement - whether it's really necessary.

I'm surprised something like this hasn't shown up earlier... or maybe it has, in which case, forgive me please! I only have so much money. :(

Improved Dodge
Prerequisites: Dodge, Dex 13+, Wis 13+

Benefit: A character can apply the bonus from Dodge against a number of opponents equal to his Wis modifier.

Normal: A character can only apply Dodge to one opponent.

I'd take out the wis requirement and tie the number of opponents you can dodge into your dex bonus instead.

If you want another requirement, perhaps Alertness fits the bill?

For 2 feats I would just say you have +1 dodge against everyone...Ive heard thats what some people give as regular dodge, so for 2 feats it doesnt seem too overpowered (though for 1 feat, in a good chain, it does).

Yeah, Dex does make sense. I'll change it when I get back from work.

I could increase the bonus somehow, or make it apply to everyone, but even a +1 to AC isn't worth 2 feats. Hmmm.

The other way I saw it was getting your Dex bonus as a dodge against one enemy...

My version is:

IMPROVED DODGE (General, Fighter)
You are extremely hard to hit when ready for an attack.

Prerequisites: Dex 15+, Dodge, Lightning Reflexes

Benefit: On your turn declare a specific attack (the wyvern’s stinger, the monk’s first unarmed strike, etc.) If that attack targets you, you get a +4 dodge bonus to AC against it.

Personally, I hate feats where you have to declare what your actions are. I always forget to use Dodge, Expertise and Power Attack.

For this reason, my version of Improved Dodge just gives a flat +2 dodge bonus to AC (subsuming the Dodge benefit). This way I can write it on my character sheet and forget about it. The feat is on my D&D page somewhere.

I think I wouldn't bother taking a dodge feat that gave me the +1 against all targets. I might, but it would be at higher levels, when I was trying to get rid of extra fighter feats. (ok, I guess that never happens) Or if I were playing an unarmored fighter. (i.e. duelist) I like the idea of a +4 against a specific attack, but I think I'd forget to apply it so often. If you could default to the "First Attack that Targets Me" sort of thing, that would be cool, and experienced fighters would figure out that you were doing this, and throw off some kind of worthless attack to counter that. (i.e. lead with an offhand strike)

Also, Hong, Why don't you do what my group does. Consider the declaring of dodge a free action. You can just decided that it applies to someone as soon as they attack you. It doesn't seem overpowered.
