The trouble is when your Russian professor pronounces incantrices exactly the same as mattresses. It is very confusing!

Because only the broken stuff provokes discussion as an exercise in min-maxing? Nobody talks about the balanced stuff or the weak stuff because there's no controversy?

That's probably it. Those things generate more discussion, and stand out more, too.

I browsed through the book once, and when I saw a (I go by memory here) race with +2 to two stats and no penalty (or was it +2 +2 -2, basically unbalanced) without level adjustment, I got wary of it.
