Increasing size

Are there any feats out there or other abilities that would allow a character to increase from medium to large? I mean there have been humans that have hit almost 9 ft.

I'm not sure of what book it's from, but I know Powerful Build makes your character be treated as though he were one size category larger. Doesn't actually make him that size category, but he's treated as though he were whenever being larger would provide a bonus.
Edit: Plus, the switch point is 9 feet, not 8.

Powerful build Ill try to find it. I want to take the warhulk prestige class out of the minatures handbook and it requires the character to be large or bigger. Wouldnt you say a 9 ft human would be large?

Yes, 9 feet is large, but in your first post you specified "almost 8 feet." While this is very tall, going by the rules of 3.5, it does not qualify you for large size.

Now, if you're wanting a race, go with Goliaths, from Races of Stone. They're medium creatures who come with Powerful Build automatically. Rest of their info is below.

Powerful Build: Whenever being a large creature would confer a bonus, goliaths are treated as large. When it would impose a penalty, they are considered medium. This does not affect their reach, but does stack with other abilities that provide similar benefits.
Mountain Movement: Goliaths can make standing long jumps and high jumps as though they were running long or high jumps. In addition, they can engage in accelerated climbing (climbing half their move speed) without taking a -5 penalty.
Acclimated: Goliaths are acclimated to high environments, therefore Goliath characters do not take the penalties described in the DMG relating to altitude. Unlike other mountain denizens, a Goliath retains this acclimation even if he should spend a great deal of time at lower elevations.
+2 bonus on Sense Motive checks.
Automatic Languages: Common and Gol-Kaa. Bonus languages: Dwarven, Giant, Gnoll, Terran.
Favored Class: Barbarian
Level Adjustment: +1

Won't work. Powerful build won't make you large, IIRC a requirement for warhulk.

There's a self-mutilation feat from HoH: Defomity (Tall). You have to be eeeeeevil, though, and it still won't qualify you for Warhulk...

You could pay a wizard to cast a Permanent Enlarge Person on you, but you'll lose your PrC benefits first time you walk into an Anti-magic Field.

Also, Powerful Build is an innate racial ability.

I suppose you could do it if you could find a way to make either Enlarge (arcane spell) or Expansion (Psionic power) permanent.
