Initiative when mounted

You can FULL ATTACK, with ranged weapons, while on a movingmount. Your mount pulls a double move, you full attack, all in the same round.

At -8 on the attack roll, mind. Make sure to take the Mounted Archery feat if you're planning to try this, or you'll be wasting a phenomenal number of arrows ...

Yes, and IMO gettign Mounted Archery and Improved Mounted Archery (Complete Warrior, IIRC), would go without saying (I rather assume folks will pick up feats that are beneficial to their "Schtick", after all).

But at least you CAN full attack (and thus, use rapid shot).

Or, alternately, use Manyshot.

Mounted Combat, Mounted Archery, Improved Mounted Archery, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Improved Rapid Shot. Thus are great mounted archer-machineguns made ...

Okay, okay, it's six feats, so it ain't cheap. But where you're a smallfry and can bring your mount withyou just about ANYwhere ... it's quite possibly worth the effort.

Picture a Gnome ranger, with a riding dog as his animal companion, and the Archery "style". Might even pick up Deepwod Sniper or OOtBI, with all of the feats too.

Be sure your mount has/gets Dodge and Mobility, though. ^_^

Naturally. Just wanted to make clear how much more important that feat is in this particular 'Schtick'. If you're planning to make a lot of full ranged attacks from the back of a galloping mount, Mounted Archery is worth more than Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Focus, and Point-Blank Shot put together ...

And I've gotta go with one of the authors on this one:

The Sage also declared that a longsword used in two hands is "a two-handed weapon". (Despite several references in the rules to "... or a one-handed weapon wielded in two hands...")

He stated that "the bastard sword and dwarven waraxe are shown on Table 7–5 as one-handed exotic weapons, but they’re really two-handed weapons".

He really doesn't seem to "get" the changes to the sizing system between 3E and 3.5.

I can definitely agree with you on that one. It seems like he knows what he's talking about in his head but in trying to explain it in simple terms he merely makes certain issues more confusing.

This is a funny case where it was my own abuse of the riding rules as a player in Stalkingblue's game - constantly hopping on & off the horse to get extra move & attacks - that persuaded me to institute the above in my own game. Ride is a class skill for Fighters, my DEX 16 Fighter had no trouble making the DC 20 check most of the time; but even if she failed she could still dismount, 5' step & attack, after my horse had already charged and attacked. That didn't seem right at all to me, whatever the 3.5 rules said.

I still don't think it's abuse. You wouldn't get more than one free mount/dismount per turn in my game of course - and whenever there were enemies not already under heavy melee pressure from elsewhere (or smart bystanders, such as more recently at Saddler's Inn), you'd have to expect someone to ride away with your horse the instant you dismount.
