Insomnia!!

Viking Bastard

Adventurer
I can't sleep. I have not had a good night's sleep in over a week. And it's gettin'
worse. A week ago I just slept badly. Last night, I didn't sleep at all.

What's wrong? Ever see that movie 'Insomnia' (either version)?

The problem is the sun. In Iceland, the sun barely sits during the summer months.
To say that it's bright and sunny all day long would be a gross overstatement. It
gets a bit dusky for several hours, but that's all. Most people here are quite used
to it and it doesn't bother them the slightest (in fact, people here usually love it).

But I can't stand it. I just can't go to sleep. It doesn't work. I just can't.

Every summer I have a bad time sleeping, but this year it's worse. Probably because
of the erratic times of my work schedule. I feel horrible. I can't think straight, I
can't enjoy a movie or tv, can't read properly. Just writing this is taking intense
concentration and I probably couldn't if I hadn't been able to get a few minutes of
shut-eyes earlier tonight.

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGHHHHH!!!!!

I went to the doctor earlier and got a prescription for a few sleeping pills. Hopefully
they'll help.

I can sympathize with you, I have insomnia too, and I tried sleeping pills, but they don't work on me. Luckily my schedule works for me right now, but when it doesn't I am absolutely miserable. I hate having to sleep, I hope that one day we will be able to get our energy refilled in a much simpler way. The world moves too fast nowadays to be groggy all day. I hope the sleeping pills help you.

Man! that sucks!

I have a very mild sleeping problem. Sometimes I sleep 3 to 5 hours in a night for a week or a week and a half, even though I am exhausted, and go to bed in time.

I can sympathize with the sheer frustration you must feel when sleep does not come... again.

I think going to the doctor was a wise desicion (+ 100 XP/lvl for that solution :) )

Maybe you shouldn't have used a Permenancy on that Circle of Protection against Sandman ;)

I know! It's so annoying! And the more you worry about not falling asleep,
the less likely it is that you'll get any.

Yes.

Heh. Give that XP to my Mum. She practically had to throw me out the door.

Well, it sounded like a good idea at the time. Again my dabbling in Sourcery
has come back to bite me in the arse.

:) in the end it always does :)

So how was last night? got any sleep? Mine was the worst in weeks. Apart from three hours I lay awake whole night, and those three hours weren't even uninterrupted sleep :(

So, I'm sitting here at work nipping my coffe, feeling like a zombie, constantly chanting: "brains... braiiiiiins braaaiiiiinss" :)

A bit. I was able to fall asleep, but it was an empty sleep. I did not feel very
refreshed and woke up as soon as they wore off. Plus, the pills gave me a
terrible hangover and I'm not even much of a hangover person.

Still, it's some sleep, which it better than none. I'll try it for a while more, to
see if the hangover/side-effects will wear off with use.

My one bad bout with insomnia happened in the middle of the winter in upstate New York - so it had nothing to do with the increased daytime hours. I think it was about two or three weeks of no sleep. I'm pretty sure it had to do with a depression I was in while out of work. My wife was working but we had almost no money, and it was a new town so we didn't know anyone, so I sat around trying to find things to do to occupy my time that didn't cost anything - wish EN World had existed at that time...

And I discovered during that time some people at the ABC TV network were real jerks - I'd be up at 3am watching the all-night news feed (it was either that or infomercials) and they would come on with a picture of a pair of eyes lit by the TV screen and their tagline "More insomniacs get their news from ABC news than from any other source." - yeah, thanks for reminding me I can't sleep!

Good luck.

You see my sleeping pattern for the last couple of years.

Go to sleep at Midnight wake up around 3:00AM to take girlfriend home. Come home around 3:30-4:00AM and get to sleep around that time. Wake up around 7:00-8:00AM.

So I average between 5-7 hours of sleep a night.

Luckily I don't have a job that requires me to be in before 9:00, plus I live close to work. However, that whole "interrupted sleep" thing gets kinda old real fast.

Now I know why arcane casters need uninterrupted sleep to be able to cast spells the next morning, hehe.

That's the normal me, but I usually catch up on my sleep during
the weekends.

I was actually able to get a good night's sleep last night. It was
raining and therefor heavily clouded, making it dark enough.

I hear tell of a swashbuckling feline around these parts that knows a bit about sleep disorders. I'm sure he will drop by and offer some helpful advice.
