I'd like to put together a soundtrack for a SciFi game I am putting together and would like it to consist of fast, high paced instrumentals that have plenty of bass and treble. So what do my fellow gamers recommend to me?
I've got a few that I use that aren't instrumentals... from the Eon "Void Dweller" CD I like The Spice Must Flow and Fear is the Mindkiller... but that might have something to do with my Dune obsession, you tell me.
I recommend most of Eric Serra's soundtracks (The Fifth Element, Goldeneye*, The Professional, The Messenger) and you can't go wrong with Rob Dougan's Furious Angels album (buy the deluxe since it includes a second disk that's all instrumentals).
* When I played through Quake II I inserted the Goldeneye soundtrack and used that for music instead of the Quake II soundtrack.
I wrote a post about gaming soundtracks on Treasure Tables, my weblog for GMs, and there are a couple of sci-fi offerings mentioned there -- notably Halo and The Chronicles of Riddick. The full post is here.
