INTERCEPT Mission One: The Sensible Initiation

Sparrow casually enters the Hilton lobby and glances around to get an idea of what it looks like, what sorts of people are around, and where Black and his friends have gotten to.

The usual cast of receptionists, bellboys, janitors, tourists and businessmen are moving throughout the lobby, though the crowd isn't praticularly thick. At the far end of the lobby, Black and his associates are entering an open elevator. The doors close behind him, and the floor indicator shows the elevator rising steadily to the top floor suites.

Sparrow mumbles to himself, then turns on his radio, "Alright, they've gone upstairs to the top floors. I'll regroup with you here in the lobby." He then finds himself a seat somewhere he can see the doors and the elevators and waits.

Campbell will find Sparrow in the lobby. "Where are they at? Now the hard part, our mission is to apprehend the guys with the case. I counted three big guys and Mr. Black. Do you have any ideas?" Looking at his partner.

"This could be tricky. If we try to take them now, we will be outnumbered and have the problem of figuring out exactly where they are. Another option would be waiting for them to return to their car - if they even do - and try to take them out vehicle to vehicle. Plus, we need to figure out exactly what is going on here. There is more to this mystery than just that case, I believe."

Campbelll will state to Sparrow "It sounds like whatever was in the case was stolen from Jack Lombardi. I think Mr. Black is working for Mr. Lombardi. The other problem we have is that when they were leaving the club, Mr. Black said he would be back in Japan by tomorrow. I think they will be leaving soon. This is our one chance to get the case back."

"What do you think about the idea of calling HQ and seeing what we know about Jack Lombardi?" Campbell will ask Sparrow.

Sparrow ponders the situation for a moment.

"From what I understand, Jack Lombardi was the intended buyer. However, this 'Black' intercepted them. I believe his employers are located in Japan, which is why he is returning there tomorrow. If he worked for Jack Lombardi, who is American, why would he be going back to Japan? Likewise, if Lombardi is located in Japan, why would they buy from a European in New York City? There are many quieter locations in Eastern Europe or Central Asia to negotiate a hot transaction like this."

"Something is very very wrong. Let's go ahead and call HQ about Lombardi. Likewise, see what we can find out about the original owners of this case. One of us should try to find out what room those men were in. Maybe we can sweet talk the clerk at the desk for information. Unless you have a better way to do it?"

"I still think Lombardi is the orginal owner. Freidrich mentioned something about the lock on the case. He was very specific about its instructions. He mentioned it was stolen from Lomabardi. If Lombardi was the orginal owner he would know how to open the package and hence Freidrich was killed for stealing it and they did not need to know how to open it becuase they are already knew how." Campbell will state to his partner.

"We don't know Lombardi is American. I have never heard of Lombardi have you?" Campbell will state. "There are million reasons they could be going to Japan, but who knows. I suspect it has to do with what is in the case."

"When we call HQ about inquiring about Lombardi, why don't we see if they can hack the system here at the hotel and see what we can find out before we make face to face contact?" Campbell will suggest.

"He never said it was stolen from Lombardi. In fact, he implied that the contact he was intending to meet was to be Jack Lombardi, which I derive from the statement that "Wait, you aren't Jack Lombardi." and the sudden gunfire. We know the mark was intercepted and that there were atleast 3 parties involved:
1) Friedrich and his men - the sellers.
2) Jack Lombardi and his men, presumably the dead men in the alley. The intended buyers (who Friedrich was very startled not to meet).
3) "Black" and his men - the interceptor.

Also, from the conversation, we know that the contact, this Lombardi, represented a Mafia family because Friedrich inquired why a Mafia family wanted to purchase the case. Hence my assumption that he is probably American. Or even a New Yorker.

Black must be an agent of the original owner, who wanted his merchandise back. Since he is traveling back to Japan, I sincerely doubt he represents the Mafia family."
