International "Region Free" DVD players

Well, FYI, even in Finland it's perfectly legal to sell region free DVD players.
I guess I wasn't clear enough.

It's illegal to sell non-region free players in Finland.

Does anyone have one of these "region free" DVD players. If so, where did you get your from, what are your thoughts on it?

Anyone got any other info on them they are willing to share?

Thanks.

I'm sure you can find them all over China... as well as copies of the latest Hollywood blockbusters for 75 cents to a $1 each.

Make sure if you get a "region free" DVD player that you also get one that can convert between PAL and HTSC televisions as well. (I think it's HTSC?) One format of TV is only for the US & Canada. The other is for the rest of the world.

NTSC. Japan also uses NTSC, actually.

In answer to the original question, the $29-$39 Cyberhome DVD Player that Best Buy and Wal-Mart and lots of other places have, has a menu where you can set it to "Region 0" (Region-free) and it supports playing PAL discs on an NTSC TV. :)

I won't tell you how to access the menu, as that would violate the DMCA (which violates THE FIRST AMENDMENT, but I digress), but I assume you know how to Google with keywords like "Cyberhome", the model number, "menu" and "region".... ;)

My DVD player (installed in my comp) has a way to change regions but it only allows x number of times to change that. It's not infinite and I don't know if I can set it for "Region 0"...

I don't know about mom's DVD player.... haven't seen the instruction book for it and she lost the original remote and had to buy one of those "universal" remotes.

If you have a particular model you're looking at, just google in the name and model number along with "region code". Or, use the dope-ass page I linked.
