Internet "geek" image shattered

I blame crappy TV too. Its been really crappy the last few years with a couple points of brilliance, like 24.

Anyway, while the article is very cool, I wouldn't get all gloaty just yet. The article doesn't say anything about gamer internet geeks. :p

I use my laptop while watching late night TV, so they aren't exclusive at all, I know I sometimes fall asleep if I have no computer, so they're pretty dependent on each other for me

Crappy doesn't even begin to describe it. Between 'reality shows' that sound (and look!) like Jerry Springer episodes and unfunny mass-produced comedys, we're lucky there's anything watchable nowadays.... (Thank heaven for the BBC!!)

I suppose it has something to do with the interactive nature of the internet as opposed to the passive entertainment nature of television.

But is most of "the internet" really all that interactive? Sure, EN World is interactive, but somehow I doubt places like this account for the majority of the traffic.

Also, I'll note the old adage, "correlation does not imply causation". The fact that internet users don't watch as much TV and do get out more does not mean that the internet usage is actually part of the cause for the difference in behavior.

The internet usage and higher level of social activity may instead both be results of a common cause, rather than one being a cause of the other. Consider - what if the non-internet users are mostly older folks? Then you may be comparing young, energetic, lively folks to a bunch of people in retirement homes. Hardly an indication that the internet is responsible.

Since when wild speculation has to be founded ? :p
