Intolerable!

Correct.

However, this announcement was timed to suit Paizo's commercial interests, not WotC's.

WotC chose not to explain this digital initiative because they aren't ready to confirm their list of features yet (mainly because they don't know what they can finish by when and they don't have to flog it at GAMA. Software distributed via the web isn't print publishing - it has its marketing strengths and weaknesses).

Paizo, on the other hand, HAD to announce this now because their staff is in Las Vegas just going to dinner after finishing setting up their booth for GAMA - which starts tomorrow.

And they absolutely HAD to have Pathfinder to announce to distributors tomorrow.

And, perhaps they should have, since their attempt to offer advanced warning didn't help them.
Well, yes, what you see as "advance warning" is all fine and well, but it's simply bad business IMHO to announce the cancellation of something without having some concrete answers about what it to replace it. In any of the various industries and businesses I have been involved in, this would be considered poor marketing, at best...

I worked for a considerable amount of time in the mobile (cell) phone industry. When analog was canned in favour of digital, you bet your sweet bippy that companies well and truly had answers on what is to come when they announced the future cancellation of analaog services.

(And for the record, many people still to this day think that analog was the superior product. :p )

And we've always got music to fall back onto.
Wine is fine but whiskeys quicker
Suicide is slow with liquor
Take a bottle and drown your sorrows
Then it floods away tomorrows

Evil thoughts and evil doings
Cold, alone you hang in ruins
Thought that youd escape the reaper
You cant escape the master keeper

cause you feel like youre living a lie
Such a shame whos to blame and youre wondering why
Then you ask from your cask us there life after birth
What you sow can mean hell on this earth

Now you live inside a bottle
The reapers traveling at full throttle
Its catching you but you dont see
The reaper is you and the reaper is me

Breaking laws, knocking doors
But theres no one at home
Made your bed, rest your head
But you lie there and moan
Where to hide, suicide is the only way out
Dont you know what its really about

Maybe they wanted the spotlight to be on the magazines during their final months?

I guess that sort of thinking makes me an optimist.

Hey TSR, thanks for cancelling my favorite magazine of all time in favor of something that does not provide an emphasis on board games or strategic games. I can't believe that you're cancelling this institution after 202 issues! It's unconscionable! You just ruined my childhood (which has been over for the better part of two decades) and gave us a price hike to boot! I refuse to read this new magazine called The Dragon (man, what an uninspired title) and I will not continue to feed your corporate greed with my dollars!
Your derision for people who aren't you is duly noted.

That would be an incorrect assumption, as you'll note that I posted this first: http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=3471903&postcount=103

Frankly I make most of my points in a roundabout, often sarcastic, and yes, sometime arrogant way. That's one of the reason I rarely post here these days, and I'm usually very careful about how I word things when I do. Perhaps the point I was trying to make with this thread was lost, but I was not speaking out of derision. :(
