Invocations for a Far Realm-flavored Warlock

The biggest problem is that the insanity inducing blast can be Chained. That the issue. That is stronger than an invocation the simply was SLA Insanity. That might be on par with the balefull polymorph invoke. Chainable up to 3-4 targets is a easy TPK.

Screw Chained. It can be Coned! Or Doomed! Bad stuff.

Confusion for 1d6 rounds (on a failed save) would be more than sufficient.

Alternately, insanity for one target (at a time -- if you make a new target insane, the previous target recovers).

Doom-ed and cone-ed require the victim to be much closer than the initial 60' of Chained. Coned might still get everyone, but requires the caster to be dangerously close to the victims should the save be made and might clip an ally/minion of the warlock. Doom hits everyone near the warlock and that is really bad cause any caster needs meat shields. If the whole party is 20' or nearer the warlock, lucky saves will ensure the warlocks death.

Good point. But in any case, I think we can agree that Eldritch Essence invocations shouldn't have permanent effects. :)

Insanity is worse than permanent, it is instantaneous. Full on Bestow curse might be alright if the curse is chosen when the essence invocation is taken.
The nastiest dark essence is 2 temporary negative levels, negatable with a fort save and useless against death ward. As writ, the pseudo blast is far better.

We... agree, right? My reading of your content and your tone are at odds here.

We agree Insanity is way too good for a Essence invocation. It is very hard to be rid of.
I suggest a permanent affect along the lines of Bestow Curse might be balanced.
I remind the deadliest Essence invocation has major balancing factors to it.

A effect that does not go away could be fine on an essence invocation. It just needs to be less powerful than the invocation that gives the warlock baleful polymorph.

If you want to make it nonpermanent, go right ahead- I'm not holding a gun to your head. :) After all, I suggested that as one of the solutions to the issue back in my last post. What are you looking for here?

Hey, I was wondering if you'd allow me to post Lurker In the Threshold on Dandwiki.com, the reason I ask is because I've created a PrC that continues the Alienoid and is based off that invocation.
