Eyvind

Eyvind

*At Kneecap's exclamation Eyvind prepares for an assault. When the rat-thing enters the light revulsion plays across his face.*

"Vas ist dees ting? Dees ceetee ist nei goot."

*Eyvind moves up to take a swipe at the rat with his sword.*

Eyvind:
Muscling your way forward, you lash out with your blade, a confidant blow that goes awry as the rat-thing darts to one side and hisses, baring broad incissors that flick specks of spittle at you. Long, bony barbs suddenly extend all along its back, clearly they were lying flat until a moment ago. The creature gives up the pretense of injury, and turns tail to flee, scampering off into the darkness.

Kneecap:
You can see the rat beastie, which you recognize aas a devil-rat now that its spines are out, wriggle into a crack in the wall and dissappear further down the tunnel.

Gavyn
After a few moments, you beleive that there is in fact nothing comming up behind you.

gavyn dundrake

[OOC: just to be sure there's nothing lurking in the rear, gavyn makes another spot and a listen check; sadly, both are at +0 :( ]

"i coulda sworn i heard something back here..." the bard mutters to himself, straining to catch any sound or movement in the darkness.

Dark nods frenetically, whilst holding on to his iron-capped staff. Within the Other Place he ‘reaches’ for the shadowed fire and holds it close lest it be needed.

[OoC: readied action on sight of other devil rats – Mage Armour /OoC]

kneecap

Seeing the rat scuttle back into the sewers Kneecap makes a big show, flailing his arms about, splashing sewer water everywhere.

"Yaaargh!! Take that yeh hairy Gator!"

Kneecap calms down some and shouts,

"Flee from the Gobber if yeh know what's good for yeh! Lest I crack your puny Gator kneecaps!"

Catching his breath for a beat, Kneecap then steps forward, resuming the party's march into the sewers.

"Devil-Rat, methinks. A big hairy, nasty bit o vermin courtesy the sewers of Corvis. Disease ridden and spiney-barbed they are. Careful not to let one bite you, lest we have to return to Gobber safehouse. I'm sure Eyvind would love that."

Eyvind

*Eyvind scowls and steps back to avoid as much of the sewer water as possible from Kneecap's hysteronics.*

"Vaach vat du air dooing, or du vill be needing da heeler goober." *Eyvind taps the palm of his off hand with the flat of his sword for emphasis. When Kneecap starts forward again Eyvind follows, leaving a 5' space between.*

Dark slowly releases his grasp on the shadowy fire, and follows the others, muttering under his breath and glaring into the shadows from beneath the veil of his hair.

All:

The sloshing of your boots digging through the septic water fades into a rhythmic accompaniment to your journey, with the suffocating aroma of close humanity endering you all thick-headed and tiredly nauseated. The tunnel grows tighter and more worn, with loose bricks buckling in on all sides, often revealing muddy walls of dirt and mortar behind them. Tyra's first torch eventually burns out, but you relay the flame to the next brand to keep your light going.

After some time, noises of a community begin to echo down the passage ahead. Shreds of light flicker on the water-slick walls, along with the occassional burst of hacking cough or scraps of conversation. The stench seems even more pervasive ahead.

A rough plank hangs from braces on the ceiling, the words "RAGPICKERS COURT" scrawled in whitewash on it. Two empty toch holders frame it.
