I agree, a legal fight would have killed one or both companies, however, i could see this being settled out of court quickly. My guess is Monte didn't want to give them what they wanted and it was more cost effect to change the name as opposed to paying a ransom or legal fees.

I just hope that they didn't lose alot marketing and the common person not stalking enworld all day knows that its now iron heroes.

I think "Iron Lords" would have been the best way for Monte and Mearls to thumb their noses.

Yeah but then I think it might have brought on someone else or even WotC. (I thought there was something about Iron Lords as an IP thing...)
