Iron man 2 (no spoilers)

I just saw it this afternoon, and thought it was really good. Again, the little touches add so much - like the two-second cameo by Mrs. Arbogast ("Bambi," the secretary at the door when Tony's bringing strawberries to Pepper).

I also thought they did a good job with Whiplash - when I first heard that he was going to be the main villain, I was concerned that he wouldn't be a big enough threat to last a whole movie. Nicely done.

Okay, my view of the movie is somewhat biased.

I have had a miserable week. Really horribly godawful.

Today, I took myself out to see that movie. And I can now look back and see the godawful week, and I don't give a darn! A story about a guy going through a rough spot, screwing up, but through native wits and pluck pulls things out of the fire? Bloody perfect! My mood is like 10,000 times better! Woohoo!

Well, you have to take into account who they are on screan with. Downey Jr., Chealde, Jackson and Roarke have all earned Academy Award nominations and Paltrow has won an Academy Award. Johanson and Rockwell just aren't in that same league.

I haven't seen this movie yet, but I'd be surprised if Sam Rockwell turned in a bad performance. He's been excellent in everything I've ever seen him in (particularly in Moon).

Just saw it. Didn't quite have the impact of the first one, but I liked it!

Both Hammer and Whiplash were effective villains. Seemed that Sam Rockwell's Justin Hammer channeled Bill Gates.

Loved it. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Perfect? Of course not. (I agree, for instance, that the final battle ended a bit abruptly.) But I thought not only was it a worthy successor to the first, it might be better. I'll have to see it again a time or two to be sure.

Very good sequel I thought. I was losing interest around Tony's birthday party, but the action thankfully picked up quickly. Very good fight and action scenes.

This one was different since Pepper had all the responsibility and none of the fun banter like the first one. I loved the fight scene with Happy Hogan. Scarlett Johansson looked awesome (as usual). Finally, I actually liked Clark Gregg's cool, calm demeanor in the last movie, so I was a little disappointed to only briefly see him.

Minor quibbles and questions:

1.
Computers are way too easy to hack in the movies.
2.
Natalie was a bit of a bore until the end. Does Black Widow play more of a role in the comic books?
3.
I missed the part where Tony builds his new element. Did I miss much?

Very good movie. I think it was as good as the first movie though different. After credits was nice and the item used to adjust the height of Stark's equipment was nice also.

Well, it wasn't computers in general - it was Hammer's suftware. Which just fit in perfectly with Hammer being a Stark wannabe who couldn't, ahem, hack it.

Well, you missed Tony building his very own particle accelerator using lots of ductwork hand-calibrated with spirit levels, a wonderfully tongue-in-cheek throwaway use of Captain America's unfinished shield, and finally the creation of the new element by manually aiming the particle beam at a small metal triangle to turn it all glowy. All good fun.

Just saw it, and had fun. The Avengers crossover bit left me a bit cold, though -- made me feel like I was being marketed to, which of course I was (on top of Audi and everyone else, of course). I think the movie would have been stronger had they done it without that bit.

Robert Downey Jr is definitely in his element in these films.

Edit: And before some comic fanboy goes off his rocker, yes, I'm aware of the historical comic linkage between Iron Man and the Avengers. I just don't see the need to adhere to canon, and think the as-envisioned movie Iron Man works better alone.

Right you are.
You figure that Hammer would want to be his own man, so to speak; someone with quiet integrity. Hammer was very obnoxious with none of Tony's suave charm.

Darn that does sound cool. Darn bathroom breaks! Ah well the DVD/Blu-Ray should be out sooner than later. Right?
