Iron Man

Can't wait! This will most certainly be a summer blockbuster and probably lead to sequels. I'm glad that it's getting a A-list cast and major-movie promotion (that they spent the $ 2.7 M for a Super-Bowl spot says a great deal). Should be a fun ride.

Anyways, even though I hate Iron Man (at least the current post Civil-War Marvel comics version), I can't wait to see this movie.
My IronMan collection goes back to the Tales of Suspense days (reprints of 3 of the first 6 TOS issues, originals on the rest) with a complete run of Volumes I, II, and III. However, despite a collection of four decades of the book and him being my favorite superhero I actually dropped the book during the current run. Hoping that the movie causes a change in direction on the book.

tie-ins? when did you hear about these? the trailer looked good and if the tie-ins are there then this movie really is a MUST SEE

A quick search of IMDB shows that Tony Stark shows up in Incredible Hulk.

I remember hearing that a military character in Hulk shows up briefly in Iron Man, but can't find that right now.

I believe General Thunderbolt Ross has been mentioned as popping up in both.

And then, of course, there's Sam Jackson as Nick Fury that's supposedly appearing in most all of the upcoming Marvel movies to supposedly lead to an Avengers movie at some point.

That's it - General Ross. William Hurt (playing Ross) describes the scene as funky - there are rumors that the same scene will be in both movies, or maybe both movies from different points of view, or something like that.

One thing I noticed too is that when Obadiah Stone meets with the Terrorist guy, and they are looking over the Iron Man plans, the terrorist says, "with an army of these, you could rule Asia."

That has got me thinking the Mandarin now has control of a variety of terrorist groups and is using the new rivalry between Stone and Stark to make his move on Asia. This also means that the whole alien-technology approach with Mandarin may be gone, if he needs technology from other sources.

Also it seems pretty sure now that in some part of the movie, Nick Fury will have a part and he is gonna be played by Samuel L. Jackson. :)

EDIT: In fact, in regards to the whole origin thing...

[sblock]I swear I saw someone in that trailer fingering Mandarin type rings. I know he's not in the movie, but ooooooooh.[/sblock]
The Mandarin's not germaine to Iron Man's origin (in the comics anyway).

If true, this is going to be either really really really good, or horrible.

One wonders if there's going to be a Captain America movie coming in the near future?
