Still, I'm not sure if that is really a problem. I can live without insulting, archaic stereotypes. They should have no problem making the Mandarin Asian, as long as he isn't another Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's or something. They could probably even keep him looking vaguely Fu-Manchuesque without being insulting (I don't recall Lo-Pan from Big Trouble in Little China causing a lot of bad press.) I'm mean, he's called the Mandarin, so he should be able to look Mandarin, no? I don't recall him being portrayed as a bad stereotype in the Iron Man comics I've read (though I've never really covered the older ones).
But then again, the studio may just want to avoid the whole potential issue altogether. We may have a Mandarin that is more Hans Gruber than Lo-Pan.
