(IRR) Turn 1: The Emerald Contest

Creamsteak

Explorer
The Emerald contest begins rather slowly. The sun rises and the preparations are underway. There are innumerable visitors all hustling around working on something. Each of the fighters is told that they must defeat at least four opponents in order to progress into the final stage of the tournament.

The Kami watch, anxious to see who would earn the armor of the emerald champion this day. The sun has risen boldly this day, and it would seem that everyone has forgotten all about the heirs this day. They have not been forgotten in truth, but everyone's focus is here, now, on this very field of battle.

Each of the nine contestants is a great warrior by reputation and ability, and all of them have a fair chance of winning this battle. Everyone only waits for the appropriate judge to come down and now watch over this incredible design of testing. All contestants are rigourously inquisitioned before and after every activity, and the process of building up suspence is magnificent.

(Note: Legal scores will come into play if you pass this series of battles)

In each match there are three participants. Two are fighters, and the third is the judge of the match. Each fighter posts two things for a fight, the roleplaying post and the strategy post.

We may be persuaded to use the YB generators if someone proposes that we do so. It would put randomness into the contest, however, which may be frowned upon, so I won't declare it a necessary element in any way.

The role-playing post is worth 4 points total.
1 Point for being formal and addressing your opponent appropriately
1 Point for combining your strategy with your role-play fluidly
2 Points for the quality of your post (from a judges role-playing standpoint)

Judges have my permission to add as many points and categories to a judgement as they want. The only restriction is that they judge both fighters by the same criteria, and include at least these 4 key points.

The Strategy post is worth 3 points total.
1 Point for creating a strategy that is logical for the situation
1 Point for posting respectfully to the other player (No comments that insult another player's strategy, concepts, character or such)
1 Point for fighting honorably against your opponent (tactics that do not break the codes a samurai will have been trained to follow)

Judges can do the same as above, but also note that a player can earn a +2 bonus for fighting more violently (they recieve no points for fighting honorably, however). The player's character in this situation risks hurting his opponent and thereby being removed from the contest.

If there are any questions, you are welcome to post them here.

Uda Hiyone prepares for the field of battle, focusing on his Inner Void, and watching the field of battle as the rest of the participants prepare....

"Today seems like a good day, the Fortunes have smiled upon us."

I'm now going to email the judges and work on an introduction and the rules. Here is everyone's first challenges:

Togashi Samanosuke and Naigotsu Akira

Matsu Nimuro and Uda Hiyone

Utaku Xieng Chi and Shinjo Shono

Shiba Tsukune and Kitsuni Wiljia

Kakita Kaiten and Togashi Samanosuke

You must win at least 4 rounds in order to compete for the title of Emerald Champion. The rules deal with how exactly this works.

OOC: These are all Iaijutusu Matches correct? Just making sure, they are not long drawn out affairs, but a match of wits, and skill at who cn draw thei blade first and fastest... or is this an actual duel?

I'm very much sure that they are all Iaijutsu matches. Either way, the IR will only take them into account as 1 round matches, with the judges deciding the victor. The judges won't be around for a day or so at least (just guessing) so you might want to "walk around" before anyone decides to post thier actual role-playing and strategy cards against thier opponent.

Hiyone takes a moment to stroll about the field, and get a good look at the other contestants and share his greetings, he is ammicable if a little bit of a rogue, and he always wears a smile. Hiyone is somewhat of a clown, and a decent storyteller, when he isn't chasing the ladies, and enjoying himself at the lovely evening parties and afterparties at the sake houses...

He is currently recovering rom a particularly drunken, and crazy binge of drinking and an orgy of fighting, and carousing... course he only recalls bits and pieces...

Akira walks slowly, observant of his surroundings, making his way around to find Togashi Samanosuke. He sees the activity involved in preparations for the coming events, only hours away he realises. He turns to the morning sun and feels the heat on his face. The sun felt no warmer than it did anywhere else, but here its rays carried a sense of pride, as if the sun enjoyed looking upon the Empire of Rokugan. Truly today was a day important to the fate of many, much was going to happen today.

Upon finding Togashi Samanosuke, Akira bows.

"Good morning Togashi Samanosuke-san, I trust you are well. I hope I can give you a worthy challenge in our upcoming duel," he says respectfully, pausing for moment so he knows no-one is listening, "There is an air of mystery about you it seems, I respect that, often things need to be tucked away from sight to maintain normality and tradition."

"I will not bid you good fortune this day," he says with a sly smile, "because I am certain you won't need it to have a good chance."

Naigotsu Akira bows again and nods to Togashi Samanosuke before continuing on his way.

OOC: Grrr... my browser just went kaboom while I was typing my IC post...
It'll come later.
Are you going to post the legal scores openly?
Have I suffered penalties to my legal score already? (due to late entry into the Jade contest? I shouldn't have for the Emerald contest)
