Is 10' step unbalancing?

I allowed a rogue with a 10' step for Temple of Elemental Evil as a feat. I think that it was a wrong decision as it allowed him to move to a hide postion easily and then next round move out of hiding and performed a range sneak.

I don't think it should be allow. It is too unbalancing, especially when it negates AoO's for the move.

Too good.

Combine it with reach, and you can get a full attack plus an AoO vs the opponents single attack, assuming a melee-focused opponent, which are fairly common.

Personally, I think it shows that there is something wrong with the combat system that a 10 ft. step breaks it. If that small a change throws things out of whack, it is the *rules* that are truly out of whack.

I disagree with your premise this is a small change. Consider this feat:

Quick Caster: You cast all spells as a Free Action. You can cast as many spells as you want each round.

That's a "small change" in that it only takes two sentences but the feat will throw all casters out of whack. Likewise, the distinction between a minor adjustment and a move is core to the system.

The ELOCATER Prc from the EXP PSI HB can take 2 5ft. steps each round. So according to WotC it isn't unbalancing :p

This is also a restrictive ability, being granted at 7th level in a PrC (Requiring Concentration 8 ranks, and 3 feats: Dodge, Mobility and Spring Attack, and a BAB+3), not a base class ability. Considering the focus of this PrC, it is an ability that fits in with the theme, but in my personal opinion - this PrC's theme is nothing more than an excuse to break all the standard rules of D&D engagment. I dont think its the most balanced PrC ever published. Also, just because its in a WotC book, doesnt make it balanced.

That has got to be one of the stupidest analogies I have ever seen. If that's the best you can do, just shut up. Good grief... :\

Giving a character a 10 foot step is in no way a small change. Its a major advantage and should be balanced as such.
