Are you suggesting 4th edition will be withdrawn and 3rd edition reinstated? (Maybe rebranded as D&D Classic?) Or is "New Coke" convenient shorthand for "any new product that didn't wow 100% of the customers of the old product"?

There are many positive reactions, but from where I am standing the negative response seems to be growing, and growing.

It is like New Coke because a substantial number of loyal customers are outraged by the new "flavor" and design.

Yet from where I'm standing the positive reactions from people that have actually played it are growing.

Admittedly people are starting to look at it more critically, because the rules are actually available. But on the whole most of the playtests I've seen have been positive.

I am talking about people who actually played. My point is the number of negative reactions seems to increase the more people play the new system. Granted the pro-4E crowd is very vocal and aggressive in its support of the game, but I see lots of people trying the new system, and shaking their heads. I actually kind of like the new system, but I still think it is inferior to 3E.

Maybe we can disguise an edition war thread by calling 3E Coke and 4E Pepsi.

Of course, it'll look weird if people start discussing the lack of gnomes and half-orcs in Pepsi, but I'm confident the mods won't catch on.

Huh. I don't hang out at my FLGS, so I don't run into any 40-60 year old players, but out of the 12 gamers I play with in various groups, 8 are enthusiastically pro-4e, 3 are ambivalent, and one is slightly anti, but converting anyway. But yeah, this thread is about to get locked.

*edit* - all 12 of us are in our late 20s-early 30s.

I saw a bunch of people playing 4e last night at one of our FLGSs. I think that's the first time I've ever seen a D&D game there, and the staff even seemed kind of pro-4e to me.
