Is 5th Edition a Real Thing?

Of course they're planning 5e, I guarentee WotC started working on 5e before 4e even hit the stores. WotC treats gaming even more as a business than TSR did, and you can't really blame them.

I think the name 5e will have a negative connotation. They should call it Razz'ma'tazz D&D.

Thats what Intel did:

- Not sure what came before 286 (was it truly 186)?
- 286
- 286
- 486
- Pentium - and didn't the pentium brand hang around for a long time?

I am off the wagon now, but I WOULD be tempted to buy Razz'ma'tazz D&D just for the name.

There was an 80186 but it wasn't widely used in PCs (nor was the 8086; the IBM PC used an 8088). Intel went from 80386 to i486 hoping that would be easier to trademark. And when that didn't work out they went to Pentium (Pro, MMX, II, III, 4 as Intel's lead desktop CPU).

The Pentium brand is still hanging around (there are now even cheap Sandy Bridge variants -- the less cheap versions are Core i3, i5, and i7 2xxx parts -- sold as Pentium somethings), though it's been relegated to the low end since Core 2 Duo launched in 2006.

RE 5e and a Gencon announcement, I've been thinking this for a while and this seems like a good a place as any to get my speculation on the table (so I can point back and say, see, that's what I thought).

WotC is not going to announce 5e at this Gencon. 4e is too young and it would look bad. My money is on them announcing a commitment to a continuation of 4e coupled with the release of some sort of D&D RPG Legacy Game, which returns to some version of older rules (likely preOGL rules) with a bit of modern polish applied. Anyway, that's my prediction. :)

Speculation?

I announced 5e back in April! -> dnd5.com

...Yea, it's just speculation at this point koesherbacon.

Speculation can be entertaining and enjoyable - I think of it like talking about your favorite sports team... what will they change next year, how will they adjust the roster next season, etc. However, with THIS topic specifically, it is hard to pull off for long before it turns into a bickering competition and the whole thing falls apart, which is unfortunate :(

5e will either bury D&D forever or bring it back like the end of a rambo movie

seriously

I know many people like 4e, personally I just see the powers and the core setting as one endless flaw (not that the powers don't work, its that theyre power...I want my spells and feats back!) but I think 5e should take a step back...WAY back

like OD&D back, but keep the good parts of 3e/4e (armor class simple stuff, clean gears for the mechanics to works, ect.) and have few classes, but still have each class bad 'cl'ass in some way, like wizards (no duh, wizards are awesome) and clerics (have more than healing, like turning undead/demons and better domain abilities [3e domain like] so the cleric can be unique and still not get away from the heal engine, which should be more amazing, like healing AND harming undead/demons with a spell, a spell of positive burst...ANYWAYS)

but as of now, 5e should remain simply a dream (or nightmare) for gamers everywhere, granted I would like to see one 4e player I know have to go spend his money again, simply because of his betrayal and hypocritical lifestyle which would make me (in that special sadistical way) laugh until I piss my ditties

sorry for saying the p word there, please no ban hammer
