Could it work? Sure.

Should it happen? I don't see why, unless they both really want to try and expand their business and don't think they can do it on their own.

If both companies are OK with their current state and their growth prospects, the challenges of a merger are probably not worth it.

It doesn't require a merger, but Freeport becoming part of Golarion would be pretty cool.

One of the cool things about Freeport is the fact that it is easily imported into any campaign setting! If you want Freeport in Golarion slap that sucker off the coast. Good to go!

Golarion seems to have plenty of empty spaces for Freeport...that's not a half bad idea. The Freeport trilogy is on my long list of things I still want to play/DM and I certainly don't want to convert it to 4E. Maybe Freeport + Pathfinder ruleset = fun?

Plus, though Chris left it unsaid, both companies are poised for "lean and mean" running. Merging companies wouldn't necessarily be better than the sum of its parts, when both parts can probably get away with producing more product than if they were united.
