Is an act of love a good act?

Love is.....

We're talking in-game here. Would you (DM, player, innocent bystander, whatever) consider an act of love a good act? (I'm not talking about sex here, I'm talking about something a person does because of love. And I'm talking about good in terms of alignment here: cosmic good, if you like.) Does love itself make it a good act? Does it depend on the action? I'd be interested to know what ENWorlders think about this...

The question probably isn't specific enough. But take what you have and tell me if love has an alignment in your campaign...

That's why I voted neutral. Just because it's an act of love has no direct bearing on alignment issues.

i agree. there should be a 'it depends on the act' choice :)

edit - good point Crothian

I voted the second option. I think that doing something for love is in general a good motivation, though what you do could be evil enough to outweigh that.

I guess that's what I meant by "it's a noble motivation". If you mean "it depends on the act", vote that way. :D

If Darkness or Dinkeldog comes across this thread could you change it to "It's a noble and praiseworthy motivation, but it depends on the act" or something similar?

neutral.

a act of sacrifice motivated by love of humanity would probably be good. stealing because someone you love asks you to isn't good.

it all depends.

Love itself is neither good nor evil in D&D terms, being that many evil entities fall in love, and the nature of that love may be good or evil, depending on the lovers.; though it is an incredible and awesome thing that cannot be denied.

Many things have been done in the name of love, some of them good, some of them unspeakably evil. Also, love has the tendency to blind the eyes of those in love. My meaning is that if, for example, in true love, a lover lost his/her lover to a kidnapping or similar circumstance, he/she would do anything and everything in his/her power to get their lover back. This could be anything from heroically rescuing him/her from the clutches of their captors, to slaughtering a village of cripple and orphans in the promise of getting a lead on where the lover is being held.

One could also act out of love for something...And that something could be evil.

"There is nothing I love more deeply than mayhem and the slaughtering of innocents."

Love has nothing to do with morality as it is merely desire. The thing that is desired may be good/bad/indifferent, but that has nothing really to do with the act of loving it. Therefore, love is neutral.

Let me pose the converse: Is hate automatically evil?
