D&D General Is Bezos a huge D&D fan?

Amazon was originally a booksite, and many of those that were really really big into books were Fantasy Fans and Sci Fi novel fans...were also RPG fans (not necessarily D&D).

By that argument, he's a massive gardening fan. Sci-fi has never been the biggest genre of books.

Let's see...

Amazon famously started as an on-line bookstore, with an excellent selection of fantasy and sci-fi.

Amazon bought up the rights to make the new Tolkien series for Amazon Prime.

Amazon saved the Expanse because Bezon was a personal fan.

We also know that he is a devoted Star Trek fan, and has the serious nerd cred.

...but I haven't heard anything about D&D before.
He is a geek who grew up in the late 70s/early 80s. Seems pretty conclusive to me.

Just made me think of the first time someone I knew ordered something off of Amazon and was waving it around in homeroom back in 1997... it was a copy of Snow Crash.

Might not have been their biggest genre, but I'm sure it was a popular one with early adopters...

Eh, it's more complicated than that.

Not really...

Both of these are (state and/or local) taxes on property, which is a form of wealth...

See, you say it right there. That's nt complicated at all.

but as a general rule, America taxes either income (at either the state or federal level) or consumption (at the state or local level, "sales tax") but does not have much in the way of "wealth taxes" or disincentives for simply hoarding large sums of money or other assets.

With respect, property taxes totaled up to something like $503 billion (so, half a trillion) dollars in 2016 - amounting to 17% of state and local government revenue.

Meanwhile, in 2016, taxpayers paid about $1.4 trillion in individual income taxes.

So, this wealth tax is on the same order of magnitude as individual income tax. I am not sure how that becomes "not much".

(And that is the last I'll say on the matter, as it has little to do with D&D unless we bring it around to how medieval lord were taxed on property...)

It's good to know that Jeff Bezos has sons to hand his wealth down to instead of just the state (death/weath tax :p), ex wives, and future mistresses.

Maybe Bezos will buy Wizards of the Coast if Hasbro does sell in a few years as rumored in another post around here. Then he can use the IP rights to make D&D movies for Amazon Video. Everybody wins!

Oh, guys, you already know me! Yes, I am going to say it:

Amazon will buy....

Now seriously the TTRPGs are one of the best tools to practice social skills, management, and to find the right balance between courage and prudence when you have to choose about taking risks.

And now Amazon is producing its own origianl media fiction, for example cartoons for children.
