Is Call of Cthulu fun to play?

YES YES YES. It's a blast.

I had played D&D for 25+ years, but had very few experiences with other games (mostly things like Travellor, etc). Have now played roughly 10-14 sessions of CoC over the last 8-0 months. My Keeper (GM) is a little Monty Haul, but we're having a lot of fun.

English Keeper, playing in 1923 London. Makes it much more fun. My character is a Solicitor (Laywer) who got caught up in events when one of his clients got eaten by a large, flying snake (which we didn't know until at least 4 people had been so eaten).

Guns are NOT your friend in CoC. In that first adventure, the PI character had brought along a double barrelled Elephant gun once we found out what we were up against. We were trying to protect an MP (Member of Parlaiment) from being eaten. Only problem was the character failed his sanity check, then rolled '00' (critical fumble), blowing the MP in half in the process.

Oops.

Good thing MI6 owed us and came in to cover the whole mess up...

The PI got killed by Vampires in our next adventure. Now we're working on what happened to my character's parents, who died when he was a small child. All he knew was that it was (supposedly) a freak carriage accident. Guess again...

I've already posted my CoC opinions here ad nauseum so I won't repeat myself. However, I would be curious to hear from a few folks who didn't like playing/running CoC and what they didn't enjoy. I can think of the 3 or 4 most common general reasons*, but would still be interested in constructive criticism.

* Don't enjoy horror/spookiness, Poorly GM'd, wrong group for the game, etc.
