D&D 5E Is D&D becoming TOO popular (More DMs Needed)?

There seems to be lots of people who want play (most with no RPG experience) because of watching games being played online. I don't think I can take on another group and so others will have to step up and DM at some point.
It takes a while - probably years, possibly never - for a new player to acquire the skills from experience to be a good DM, though there is always the odd prodigy to make everyone else feel bad about taking so long. ;)

It's just a sort of natural life-cycle, when enough* new players come into the hobby, you get a DM shortage. I'm not see'n it as bad as you are as 5e has also attracted plenty of returning fans, a fair proportion with the DMing chops to do a good job of it.

* more than 6, say. ;)

I started DM'ing again specifically because one of my wife's friends wanted to play. So, she and her husband have joined us, and then I invited one of her husband's friends to play whom I met at a party right before we started. And then I found two other more-or-less random people (screened for age and how normal they seemed to me) from a Meetup group. I ended up with a great group.

The couple had never played. Two others played a little bit, but maybe not 5th edition. The other player runs her own campaign, so she's actually helped me with quite a few rules, so that's been helpful.
