Is disarm useless?

Simple. LEt the4 Disarm-capable guy get HASTE, and it all changes.

You disarm the enemy, and then, KICK THEIR WEAPON AWAY. 8)

NOW, the formerly-armed character has a real problem, n'est-ce pas?

I know that the good old 2nd edition Player's Options had rules for disarming and where the weapon landed (akin to splash type damage). Just seems that a weapon wouldn't necessarily land comfortably at the opponent's feet for him to pick up immediately on the next round.

Disarm should be a fun and exciting action in combat, and incredibly useful.

Been meaning to ask this...

Since you can take any (single) attack option with an attack of opportunity, right?

Can you use the AoO to disarm the opponent who just picked up his weapon?

An AoO can be any kind of attack: a diaram, a trip, a grapple, anything.

First level

Oops, forgot to clarify that I was wondering why anyone would take Disarm at first level. :)

But the AoO for picking up a weapon is what seals the deal. Now that's useful, especially if you've got buddies standing beside you.

And, since Disarm can be used as your own AoO... it'd be pretty funny to use your longspear to disarm your foe as he charges in at you. He'd stop right in front of you, but his weapon would be 5 feet behind him.

Or friends. Xander disarms Spike. Giles then bullrushes Spike who, unarmed, no longer gets an AoO.
Tut, tut, Spike is a vampire, whose natural attacks count as armed :)

Another reason beside those mentioned already is that the weapon is no longer 'attended', so it can freely be mage handed, telekinesed, disintegrated, etc..

Yeah, but hopefully they'll do something GOOD this season instead of the mostly (the singing episode and the insane episodes were ok) CRAP shows that last season was.

Yeah. Most of the season was awful, with the exception of the two you mentioned. Although, I gotta tell ya', the introduction of a handgun was just ingenius, but that's a bit OT. :)

Since picking up a item is a move-equivalent action (that draws an AoO), couldn't a 1st-level character who was next to their foe disarm them and then use a ME to pick up the weapon? Since the foe is unarmed, he can't use an AoO against you. Is that right? I don't know why you you kick or ask someone else to do it. Why can't the character who disarmed his opponent do this anyway?
