Is 'Heat' a damage type?

So you are saying that a character with Pro Energy (Fire) up will still have their weapon slagged, but they themselves won't take damage? That hitting the creature is the same as the weapon taking 100 points of damage.

What about a character (Monk) hitting a magmin? Saying they take 100 points of fire damage on a failed save does not seem RAW to me though I don't mind the idea. :]
The ability is equivalent to the specific weapon taking infinite damage on a failed save. Much like a living creature dying to a death effect. The magmin ability as written can destroy even a colossal heavy mace ,hardness 10, 320 HP. That is actually the equivalent of 660 fire damage.

Most monks are not metal weapons last i checked. Wooden, stone, bone and other non- metal weapons go uneffected by the magmin ability.

I'm imagining a horrifically complicated future version of DnD where fire damage is broken down into 'heat damage' and 'oxidative stress' damage :\

You don't have to go very far; Spycraft 2.0 I believe does actually have "fire" and "heat" damage. :D Heat Damage IIRC adds penalties, but not damage, per se.

ummm..... that does not seem like a very sensible path to take.

So, does everyone agree that Pro Energy (Fire) does NOT save metal weapons when they hit a magmin?

It's a lot like Ooze abilities.

If a Black Pudding touches a metal object, it deals 21 points of damage per round. So a +3 longsword, say, with hardness 16 and 35 hit points, will last seven rounds.

But a metal or wooden weapon that strikes a black pudding dissolves immediately unless it succeeds on a DC 21 Reflex save. So that +3 longsword, which could sit in the Pudding for seven rounds before being completely destroyed, dissolves immediately if it fails a Reflex save when you use it to smack the ooze.
