Is it "wrong" to not like other systems?

I like d20, and it does every possible genre to my satisfaction - at least when the designers approached the system with an open mind and threw out what didn't fit, like Mutants and Masterminds not bothering with classes, for example.

Still, its only a set of rules. Its nothing to get worked up about, and certainly not a reason for looking down on other gamers because they play something else (or putting up with other people looking down on you).

I'd happily play a game of OD&D (1974) with diaglo, so long as he gave me 5 minutes to unlearn the rules from old my red box basic set first.

Diaglo has played a lot of 3.X and AFAIK is still playing it. That's why I have lots of respect for him. It's OK not to like other systems - after you've played them, and after you've played them long enough to tell whether the gripes you have are with the system or with the DM. I've met no end of people who declare their hatred of D20 after having just flipped through the books or played just one game. Sometimes, not even that.
This is one of the things I disagree with. To use a consciously unfair analogy, do I have to repeatedly eat poop to be able to rightfully say, "No, I don't think I like to eat poop,"? Do I even have to eat poop once?

Or, can I look at poop and say, "Well, I guess you guys like poop. That's cool. I've looked it over a bit, but I think I'll stick with pizza."

Now, admittedly, some guy might see poop where I see pizza and vice versa, but I think to demand that someone "try" something before they can form an opinion is ridiculous. Now, I don't knock stuff I've never at least given a cursory examination to, but I don't usually find suffering through something I know I won't like as the proper preparation for forming an opinion.

I didn't know (but am not surprised) about WFRP. Unisystem I forgot about. Anyway, you also owe it to yourself to read the infamous 39188 thread to... :D
And finally, check out the 42200 after that; the apex of the whole d02 discussion; a playtest session of the mythical system itself. It's truly a work of beauty. I've been tempted to run a one-shot for a long time now.

I have yet to see something that d20 cannot do. ... but I think that d20 may be the best all-purpose system ever created.

Hmmm ... thank your illustrating my point perfectly. (Pity the "rolling eyes" smily-thing is not available.)

Needless to say, I disagree (and I quite like a number of d20, class+level games).

I am sure that fans of BRP, HERO, Unisystem, and GURPS could also claim that those systems are "the best all-purpose system ever created". In fact, all these systems have very different qualities, and succeed/fail in capturing different genres to different degrees. I think GURPS is great for 'historical' style games, but is horrible for superhero games, whereas BRP does a great job for CoC and Stormbringer, but would be awful for a 'D&D' style of game. And so forth.

I thank Sigmar that the new WFRP is not d20 -- that would have been a crime against the gods. And may the 'Powers-That-Be' be praised for ensuring that the Angel and Buffy games avoided 'd20-ization'.
