Okay, so now what's wrong with Dodge?

IMO Dodge is weak, unless you plan on going up the feat chain. +1 against a single opponent that you must declare ahead of time is a small advantage that is annoying to actually use. "I Dodge him." "Now I Dodge him." etc.

I just make Dodge a flat +1 Dodge bonus to AC, applicable whenever you are not flatfooted.

Can't stand that "uh, I dodge, well, that guy over there, wait, I mean, are any of them looking at me? Does one look like it's gonna attack me? Maybe this guy, he's closest. No, that guy, he has a greatsword. Ok. Ok there."

ZZZZZZZzzzzzz

I definately agree two.

Not only for those reasons but because just a flat +1 is easier on new players. Plus it saves on bookkeeping.

All the time it doesnt increase the feats power by an incredible amount even then.

With all of those reasons... maybe someday feats like dodge and toughness will be fixed..lol

My problem with Dodge is that I always forget to set my bonus.

My DM and I have a deal - the first person to attack me in a given fight gets my Dodge bonus unless I say otherwise. It helps immensely.

The value of these two feats depends upon campaign style and PC choices. For instance, Dodge is more useful in a game where the DM throws one monstwr at the PCs at a time as opposed to a game where the DM tends to throw small armies at the PCs each battle. Mobility is very valuable in games where the DM forces PCs to move constantly during battle, but is next to useless when the DM designs encounters where the foes go to the PCs and keep them locked into place until the end of battle.

In my experiences, dodge has been a useful feat (when used wisely.) A 5% average reduction in damage taken against the worst enemy tends to be useful. I have observed it to be true in a variety of games with many different styles of DM.

Mobility has also shown to be useful, but not in every campaign and certainly not for every PC.

In one campaign I DMed, the PCs often faced off against small armies in wilderness settings with lots of room to maneuver. One PC, a barbarian, tended to make great use of mobility. His mobility feat allowed him to ignore weenie troops and go straight to the main threats behind the army. He also made great use of it while charging a foe with reach. I think that PC got more use out of mobility than he did out of cleave or great cleave.

In another game in which I play, the front line fighters tend to form a line and hold off the foe (sometimes using total defense and dealing no damage) while the spellcasters take enemies down with magic. Once the battle begins, the PCs often do not move at all. As a result, mobility would be a joke in that game.

Both of these feats have been useful in enough games that I think they are fine as they are.

I like Dodge giving a +1 dodge bonus to AC whenever you're not flatfooted. That makes it a decent feat, worth taking, but certanly not a complete no-brainer. And not a feat you sigh and reluctantly take, because Mobility and Spring Attack are worth blowing a feat.

My group laways forgets Dodge. I switched Dodge out for Combat Expertise, because it was just more useful. and I really wanted Mobility, too. Maybe is Dodge gave a flat bonus I'd take it again.

Back on topic, Mobility is only as useful as you make it. If you have plus Gahzillion to your tumble, it's pretty useless. But if you can't tumble, it can be terribly useful. If you never move in combat, it's not for you, but if you're looking for, (what was that feat called again, Mobility?) it's perfect.

Just because someone might not make use out of Mobility doesn't make it a weak feat. My Fighter/Rogue wouldn't get much utility out of Maximize Spell, but that doesn't make that a weak feat.

That's exactly how I house-ruled Dodge IMC. Makes the feat more useful and book-keeping is easier.

As for the original question, as many posters have already said - no, I don't think mobility is a particularly weak feat.
