Bracers of archery are excellent for, a ranged fighter, but i was wondering if by the rules a melee eqvuvilent could be constructed, for the same price and bonuses.

Yes/No?

I don't think that would be very fair. Bracers of archery are limited to 30' distance. So how would you limit it for Melee?

There is no melee equivelent of it.

I don't know if the same can be buitl for melee for the same price. I'd have to open the DMG and figure out if they but any extra priced things in it. I think since melee combat is general superior it should have a little extra added onto the top, though.

Don't suppose you would be able to would ya? please.
Magic calculations are not a strong skill for me. Also if needed to be limited, the character, i am lookign at this for uses a 2-handed sword style.

I would think that something along the lines of 1.5 times as expensive as the bracers of archery would be appropriate for some "bracers of melee mastery" which were some items that did basically what you're talking about in Baldur's Gate.

I knew I had seen it somewhere else before. Would you say for all melee or a certain type
Ie; piecing/Bludgeoning/Slashing?
or Swords, Axes, Polearms?;
or; for exoctic weapons an even more specialy made item.

Dungeon 89 has a adventure called headless with the main enemy having bracers of reaping - +2 atk and +1 dmg when using a sickle or scythe listed for only 5100gp.

I made up a couple of items some time ago, based on those in Baldur's Gate 1/2.

Gauntlets of Weapon Focus: In the hands of a character with at least a +1 Base Attack Bonus, these leather gauntlets provide a +1 bonus to attack rolls, just as if she had the Weapon Focus feat. Both gauntlets must be worn for the magic to be effective. The benefits do not stack with those from the actual Weapon Focus feat.

Caster Level: 4th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Weapon Focus; Market Price: 1,500 gp; Weight: 1 lb.

Gauntlets of Weapon Specialisation: These gauntlets are made of soft leather with metal plates covering the back of the hands and fingers. When worn by a character with at least a +1 Base Attack Bonus, they function exactly like gauntlets of weapon focus. When worn by a fighter of at least 4th level, however, they provide a +1 bonus to attack rolls and a +2 bonus to damage rolls, just as if she had the Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialisation feats (these benefits do not stack with those from the actual Weapon Focus and Weapon Specialisation feats). For ranged weapons, the damage bonus only applies against targets within 30 feet. Both gauntlets must be worn for the magic to be effective.

Caster Level: 7th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialisation; Market Price: 6,000 gp; Weight: 1 lb.

(No, this doesn't have anything to do with the actual topic, but I thought I'd mention them anyway. )

I think the Bracers of Archery are overpowered, as they stack with the normal magic bonuses for bows and arrows, and aren't that expensive.

I think they should just grant proficiency, and nothing more.

Geoff.
