Is there any knowledge of new FR products in 2004 besides the Player's Guide?

I don't lurk much at the WotC boards much, so, if anyone else does or otherwise knows something...

Is there any knowledge of new FR products in 2004 besides the Player's Guide to Faerun?

In particular, there was a brief mention somewhere a few months ago of a Waterdeep/Undermountain hardcover. Have there been any more rumors of that lately?

Damn. When the hell are they gonna get to Cormyr? :(

Anyway, I'm interested in the answer to this question, too. Forgotten Realms is one of my favorite settings.

I'd guess that Serpent Kingdoms (by Eric Boyd, see the front news page) is a FR product as well. Possibly a region-book about Tashalar and Chult, or maybe Hlondeth and the Vilhon Reach.

Dammit, beat me to the punch.

The Dalelands is the one region I want them to write about...AND a book on the other realms not really detailed in the FR book...Maztica, the other one, and the other one... sorry, can't remember their names, but they were all cool, and they deserve their own sourcebook.

I'd pay good money for Al-Quadim and Kara-Tua sourcebooks...

I'd pay better money for an arabian adventures book, done like OA (generic rules, witha sample setting - but containing rules that the sample doesn't usebut that other examples of the genre might!!!) but that's a different thread.

Hrm. I think i should voice this now before we get out of hand into the "I want this book" type of convo.

The following has been said MANY times. Once Rich Baker said it to me via chat. Another time it was said at the FR Reception at Gencon.

As much as developers, as fans, would LOVE to put out Al Quadim and Kara-Tur books..its not gonna happen.

The books that will be made first (if at all) are the places that will bring the most money. The one contributing factor to TSR's demise was flooding the market with so many diffrent areas.

Although I'm no definitive voice you can certainly forget about books detailing Kara Tur (if they didnt do it with Oriental Adventures they arent gonna do it now. The closest you'll get is Unapproachable East.) or Al-Quadim. From the little drops down the grape vine I can say you should expect a book on Cormyr/Dales/Sembia area.... and a book on the Old Empires area. (In fact If memory serves Old Empires is just north of the Dales, thus all 4 might be in the same book. Cant be sure.) A Waterdeep book is something they really wanna do but we might not see till 2005 or 6 becuase the north was recently covered via the Silver Marches, AND will be indirectly covered by the Underdark. When you think about it most of the underdark activity is in the north.

As for a last comment. I'd like to remind you FR fans that i run a Forgotten Realms fan chatroom on irc.

i'm gonna email Rich Baker and see if i can arrange a sort of "whats coming up in FR" chat.

I 100% plan to have a chat with Gwen Kestrel in october when Underdark hits. (I just have to remind her. >_<)

If anyone is intrested in idling in the chatroom, or just discussing books and stuff........you can find it on chat.psionics.net #forgottenrealms

To get there you can click the link in my sig. You can also use ENworlds Java chat and type /join #forgottenRealms after connect.

Actually (waving my own flag a bit here) I have done a fair bit of work on something like this as a 3rd-party d20 product. My pitch to the publisher was, almost in as many words, 'Oriental Adventures but Arabian'.

But alas, the publisher dropped out, Green Ronin (of Testament and Mythic Vistas) don't accept unsolicited submissions, and a d20 publisher who was interested in it (but shall remain nameless) was so lackadasical and unprofessional in answering emails that I eventually gave up in disgust. So unfortunately all my work languishes on my hard-disk, gathering electron-dust...

But back on-topic - the Old Empires are probably slated for a book of their own one day, as are Tethyr/Calimshan, Anauroch, Dambrath and Halruaa, and so on. I also think there's an Underdark title due for release fairly soon, although I'm not sure if it's a dedicated FR book. I actually don't want to see a Dales book in the immediate future. In the FRCS, there's more words covering a pair of bullying brothers in Shadowdale than there is about the vast capital city of Mulhorand and all its inhabitants. Enough of the Dales already! I'd much rather hear about some of the lesser-known places in the Realms. Unapproachable East was great, for example.

Underdark will be released in October (Next Month!). It is a Forgotten Realms title--

[UNDERDARK] Provides a detailed look at the lightless world under the surface of the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. This accessory provides a wealth of highly detailed information about on of the most popular Underdark race, the drow, in addition to multitudes of other below-ground species. In addition to regional feats, prestige classes, spells, monsters, and magic items, there is also background content on this area of the world, including extensive story content gathered from a multitude of Forgotten Realms products and articles. To aid DMs, the material for running a campaign is isolated in a single section of the book and includes adventure hooks.
