Is this from a book? movie? what?

Sorry for the vagueness. This 'scene' has been bugging me for awhile. It's not really a scene I remember but more of an idea. In it someone finds out how he or his partners die but isn't alowed too tell anyone and in the end that person dies and everyone is sad and surprised that the person who knew about it didn't say.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? I don't know if it's from a book or a movie or maybe I'm just making it up (I hope not).

That's awfully vague, Gaon. Is it fantasy or sci-fi? Is the person in question male or female? Do you have any more details you could give?
