Hi

I have not experience with conversion from AD&D 1.0 or 2.0 to 3.5. I know nothing about AD&D 1.0 and 2.0. But I read that in 1.0 XP reward for killed monsters is very low in comparsion with 3.5.

So, if 3.5 version has the same number of monster of the same monsters, PCs will gain levels very quickly in comparsion with 1.0 and module will disbalanced.

Is it true or false?

Thanks

Well, yes and no. The system is built so that characters go up levels faster in 3.x, but it is not due to experience amounts but requirements. Indeed, in 1e PCs gained experience for gold pieces aquired and this is no longer true in 3.x.

Also, monsters are a lot more powerful in 3.5 than in 1e meaning that a 3.5 version with the same number of monster of the same monster will be much more difficult than in comparison with a 1.0 module.

In conlcusion, it's simply a very different ruleset.

Also keep in mind that in 1e, each different class (fighter, wizard, etc) needed different amounts of xp to go up in levels.

Now, in 3.x, all the classes use the same xp advancement.

Thanks for answer.

But in the Conversions Library in the 3.0 version of T1-4 RoTEE numbers of monsters are the same as in original 1.0 version. So, it is module already not for 1-8 levels?

Possibly; I'm not familiar with it. Maybe those monsters in particular are similar enough for that. My position is that the rule sets are so vastly different that unless you have a really good understanding of both rulesets, you may be better off building the module for 3e from the ground up and simply using the original as a guide.

I haven't done any conversions yet, so take whatever I say about this with a grain of salt.;)

Edit: As has been my experience with 3e, one who has sufficient experience with the rules could balance the module to be for those levels. If you have a specific conversion in mind, ie T1-4 RoTEE, read the reviews of it and see what others think.

D'Oh... looks like nobody has commented on it yet. Your best bet may to be to contact whoever converted it and others who have experience with the conversion and the original.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

WotC has given strict guidelines for the conversion of adventures. You have to make a straight conversion. That means: A 1.ed Monster has to be the same in 3.0, even if the monster in 3.0 is more powerful and deadly to the PCs suggested to run the adventure. You will find only straight conversions and you must look if the encounters are approbiate for the level of the PC with whom you want to run this adventure. Most converted adventures are to deadly for the original sugested level. Perhaps you will find some threads of running the converted adventure on this board :) where GMs can give you some advice.
